Na nowy album OLD LESHY kazał nam czekać cztery lata. Jednak czekanie to opłaciło się, bo oto pod banderą Werewolf Promotion ukazał się właśnie materiał długogrający. Ten warszawski duet tworzy black metal w pogańskich klimatach już od 2017 roku, a oprócz wspomnianych tu dwóch albumach na koncie ma kilka splitów, materiał EP i demo.
’Na Skraju Przepaści’ to album, na którym umieszczono jedenaście utworów, które łącznie trwają blisko godzinę czasu. Muzyka to nasycony atmosferą pagan black metal, który korzeniami sięga wczesnych lat dziewięćdziesiątych, co tylko dodaje mu specyficznego uroku i sprawia, że muzyka łatwo zapada w pamięci. Nie brakuje tu oryginalnych melodii, które przełamywane są melancholijnym brzmieniem. Tempa są zróżnicowane, jest kilka szybszych momentów, ale materia muzyczna utrzymuje się głównie w średnich prędkościach. Riffy gitar są wręcz lodowate. Wolniejsze sekcje tremolo nadają niebanalnej melodyki, a mocniejsze uderzenia w struny przybierają niemal monumentalny charakter. Bardzo pasuje mi tu szybkie tempo perkusji, co sprawia, że stopa sama wytupuje rytm, ale jest tu też dużo wolniejszej gry i co ciekawe zmniejszone tempo nie wpływa na poziom agresji, buduje jedynie oryginalny, zimny klimat. Bez instrumentów klawiszowych ten materiał nie wchodził by tak dobrze. Wszystko razem doskonale do siebie pasuje, tworzy niepowtarzalne muzyczne spektrum. No i to brzmienie… jakby ten album był nagrany jakieś trzydzieści lat temu, to strzał w dziesiątkę. Wokal oczywiście jest bardzo black metalowy, chropowaty skrzek, który czasami jest mało wyraźny, ale z pomocą przychodzi obszerna książeczka, w której spisano teksty do utworów i od razu można jeszcze bardziej zagłębić się w tę sztukę. Jeżeli lubicie atmosferyczne granie, to ten album z pewnością uderzy w wasze gusta.

OLD LESHY kept us waiting four years for a new album. However, the wait has paid off, because here is the long-playing material just released under the Werewolf Promotion banner. This Warsaw duo has been creating black metal in pagan themes since 2017, and in addition to the two albums mentioned here, they have several splits, EP and demo material to their credit.
’On the Edge of the Abyss’ (translation from Polish languege) is an album that features eleven tracks that total nearly an hour of time. The music is atmosphere-saturated pagan black metal, which has its roots in the early nineties, which only adds to its specific charm and makes the music easily memorable. There is no shortage of original melodies, which are broken by melancholic sound. Tempos are varied, there are a few faster moments, but the musical matter stays mostly in the medium speeds. The guitar riffs are downright icy. Slower tremolo sections lend an offbeat melodic touch, while harder strikes on the strings take on an almost monumental character. I’m very much in tune with the fast pace of the drums here, which makes the foot stamp out the rhythm on its own, but there’s also a lot of slower playing here, and interestingly the reduced tempo doesn’t affect the level of aggression, it just builds the original cold atmosphere. Without the keyboards, this material would not go in so well. Everything fits together perfectly, creating a unique musical spectrum. And then there’s the sound… as if this album was recorded some thirty years ago, it’s a hit. The vocals, of course, are very black metal, a scratchy croak that is sometimes not very clear, but with help comes an extensive booklet that lists the lyrics to the songs and you can immediately get even deeper into the art. If you like atmospheric playing, this album will certainly strike your fancy.
