Corpus Offal is a death metal band from Austin, formed in 2024. It consists of three musicians known for their involvement in other projects. From the very beginning, the group embraced a raw, heavy, and organic sound, blending doom-laden riffs with grindcore-level brutality. Their discography includes a demo and a debut album, which was released this year and is the subject of this review.
The debut album by Corpus Offal is an uncompromising dose of rotten death metal that never for a moment pretends to be modern or tries to flirt with clean production or studio polish. Instead we get an organic foul sound in which every riff feels like crushed bones and the vocals resemble the roar of a dying organism drifting in a lake of blood. The band knows exactly how to build an atmosphere of decay. The tracks are long suffocating often slowed down to the limits of endurance yet full of unexpected surges and brutal accelerations. The compositions have something hypnotic about them as if guiding the listener through a sticky slow process of decomposition. There is no room here for technical bravado or melodic variation. It is all about weight texture atmosphere and a physical sense of oppression. The production emphasizes that analog filth. Everything sounds as if it were recorded in a musty bunker where the gear still remembers the early days of Autopsy. „Corpus Offal” sounds like a recording unearthed from an underground lab raw murky full of deformed reverb and distorted detail. It is a repulsive album but precisely for that reason a fascinating one brutal inaccessible and completely uncompromising. For some it might be downright repellent but fans of the filthiest corners of death metal will find everything they seek here weight a morbid obsession and sound that is not only heard but felt beneath the skin.

Corpus Offal to death metalowy zespół z Austin, powstały w 2024 roku. Tworzą go trzej artyści, którzy znani są z udziału w innych projektach. Grupa od początku postawiła na brzmienie surowe, ciężkie i organiczne, łącząc doomowe riffy z grindcore’ową brutalnością. W ich dyskografii znajdziemy demo i debiutancki album, który ukazał się w tym roku i to właśnie ten materiał dotyczy niniejszej recenzji.
Debiutancki album Corpus Offal to bezkompromisowy zastrzyk zgniłego death metalu, który ani przez chwilę nie udaje nowoczesności, ani nie próbuje flirtować z czystością produkcji czy studyjnym połyskiem. Zamiast tego dostajemy organiczny, cuchnący dźwięk, w którym każdy riff brzmi jak rozgniatane kości, a wokale przypominają ryk umierającego organizmu dryfującego w jeziorze krwi. Zespół doskonale wie, jak budować atmosferę zgnilizny – utwory są długie, duszne, często spowolnione do granic wytrzymałości, ale jednocześnie nie brakuje im nieoczekiwanych zrywów i brutalnych przyspieszeń. Kompozycje mają w sobie coś hipnotycznego, jakby prowadziły przez lepki, powolny proces rozkładu. Nie ma tu miejsca na techniczną brawurę czy melodyjne urozmaicenia – chodzi o ciężar, teksturę, klimat i fizyczne wręcz odczucie przytłoczenia. Produkcja podkreśla ten analogowy brud. Wszystko brzmi, jakby zostało nagrane w zatęchłym bunkrze, gdzie sprzęt pamięta jeszcze czasy wczesnego Autopsy. „Corpus Offal” brzmi jak nagranie wydobyte z podziemnego laboratorium – surowe, mętne, pełne zdeformowanego pogłosu i przesterowanych niuansów. To album odrażający, ale właśnie przez to fascynujący; brutalny, nieprzystępny i totalnie bezkompromisowy. Dla niektórych może być wręcz odpychający, ale fani najobrzydliwszych zakamarków death metalu odnajdą tu wszystko, czego szukają: ciężar, śmiertelną obsesję i dźwięk, który nie tylko się słyszy, ale wręcz czuje pod skórą.
