Akhlys is a musical project from the United States that was founded in 2009. Initially focused on dark ambient sounds, since 2015 it has clearly shifted toward atmospheric and intense black metal, drawing inspiration from the realms of dreams, nightmares, and borderline states of consciousness. The band’s style combines ferocity and a hypnotic atmosphere with ambient soundscapes and esoteric symbolism. Their compositions often evoke a sense of trance-like immersion in a world of oneiric horror. The group consists of three musicians who are also active in other projects within the extreme music scene. Akhlys has released four full-length albums, the most recent of which is the subject of this review.
’House of the Black Geminus’ is a monumental work that raises the bar in the genre of dark black metal. The album, consisting of six expansive compositions, takes the listener on a hypnotic journey through three symbolic spaces: Hearth, Cellar, and Attic. Each of these acts radiates a distinct atmosphere, combining raw, aggressive energy with dense ambient and industrial textures. Akhlys to pochodzący ze Stanów Zjednoczonych projekt muzyczny powstały w 2009 roku. Początkowo skupiał się na brzmieniach dark ambient, jednak od 2015 roku wyraźnie skręcił w stronę nastrojowego, intensywnego black metalu, czerpiącego inspiracje z obszarów snu, koszmarów oraz stanów granicznych świadomości. Styl zespołu łączy gwałtowność i hipnotyczny klimat z ambientowymi pejzażami dźwiękowymi i symboliką ezoteryczną. Ich kompozycje często wywołują wrażenie transowego zanurzenia w świecie sennej grozy. Grupę tworzy trzech muzyków aktywnych również w innych projektach sceny ekstremalnej. W dorobku Akhlys znajdują się cztery pełnowymiarowe albumy – najnowszy z nich stanowi przedmiot niniejszej recenzji.
