After a little over three years, Finnish band BLOOD RED FOG returns with their fourth album. The origins of the horde date back to around 2004, when a sleepwalker hiding under the pseudonym B.R.F. and possessed by Black Metal founded the project in the town of Kuortane. This led to a series of releases that appeared fairly regularly in the underground scene. Starting in 2005 with the first demo, the project has revealed its hellish face multiple times. Each of these incarnations differed from the previous one, yet all remained within the framework established at the beginning. I suspect that the idea of playing blood-and-bone Finnish Black Metal came naturally. Although the horde has had moments in its history where it leaned toward a sad or even depressive atmosphere in its tracks, that element of Finnish ferocity was always detectable. Thanatotic Supremacy might partially challenge that theory — but you’ll have to judge for yourselves. It’s time to talk about the latest album from the Finns.
Listening to the opening track, which shares its title with the album itself, we immediately hear significant changes. To sum it up in a few words: this is the wildest and most chaotic album in B.R.F. and company’s discography. That said, I won’t focus on breaking down each individual track. Let’s look at the album as a whole. It’s filled with dynamic playing, framed within a distinct sense of melody. And that melody—far from being sweet—cuts into our minds like a rusty blade with brutal force. One of the album’s strongest points is its balance between chaos and the deliberate infusion of stasis, or even numbness. It’s rare to come across material that so coherently blends such seemingly contradictory elements. Chaos, demonic energy, and dread intertwine with lament and pain. In the track Astral Witch, the guitars even take on a weeping, mournful tone. It’s as if BLOOD RED FOG acts as a medium, using sound to transport us across dimensions. Added to that are some incredible ambient passages that deepen the atmosphere, making the Finns’ musical message even more striking. The production isn’t what you’d call clean—there’s grit in the guitar work—but this isn’t a garage release either. It strikes a middle ground that fits perfectly here. It highlights the music’s expansiveness and actually enhances the horde’s potential. The riffs are largely melody-driven—melodies that take your breath away. They’re anything but trivial, full of emotion that tears at the soul, spinning wildly as they plunge into the void. This music is soaked in desperation, yearning for vile isolation… I’ll end this short report with a note about the vocals. When B.R.F. screams, it’s as if he has nothing left to lose. His voice is full of darkness, full of the Devil. Broken, possessed, in the grip of death. Chaos—followed by nothingness. The fourth album, Thanatotic Supremacy, is a mature record, boiling with passion and devotion. A journey through hellish abysses, astral realms, and death itself. Quintessential. Incredible. And really, what more is there to say? Watch for it and buy it—it’s worth it!

Po trzech latach z hakiem powraca z kolejnym, już czwartym albumem fiński BLOOD RED FOG. Początki hordy to okolice roku 2004, kiedy to w miasteczku Kuortane lunatyk ukrywający się pod pseudonimem B.R.F. i opętany Black Metalem zakłada ten twór. Następstwem są wydawnictwa, które dość regularnie się ukazywały w podziemiu. Począwszy od 2005 roku i pierwszego dema, projekt ukazywał swoje piekielne oblicze już wielokrotnie. A każde z tych oblicz różniło się od poprzedniego, pozostając jednak w ramach tego, co zostało wyznaczone na początku. Podejrzewam, że zamysł grania fińskiego z krwi i kości Black Metalu przyszedł naturalnie. Pomimo, że horda miała momenty w swej historii skłaniania się ku smutnej czy wręcz depresyjnej aurze w utworach, to jednak ten element fińskiej drapieżności był zawsze do wychwycenia. 'Thanatotic Supremacy’ po części może dementować ową teorię, ale to już ocenicie sami. Czas pogaworzyć nad ostatnim albumem Finów.
Słuchając już otwierającego utworu zatytułowanego tak samo jak i sam album, możemy usłyszeć istotne zmiany. Ubierając to w słowa podsumowania, można powiedzieć, że ten album jest najdzikszym i najbardziej chaotycznym w dyskografii B.R.F. i spółki. Zresztą, nie będę się skupiał i rozbierał na czynniki pierwsze poszczególnych utworów. Spójrzmy na ten album jako na całość. Masa tutaj dynamicznego grania, ubranego w konkretną melodię. Ta z kolei, będąc daleką od słodkiej, niczym rdzawe ostrze wdziera się brutalnie w nasz umysł. Bardzo dobrym rozwiązaniem jest tutaj balansowanie pomiędzy Chaosem a systematycznym dozowaniem impasu czy nawet odrętwiałości. Rzadko kiedy spotykam się z tak spójnymi materiałami łączącymi w sobie tak sprzeczne z założenia elementy. Chaotyczność, demoniczność i groza przeplatają się z lamentem, boleścią. W utworze 'Astral Witch’ pojawiają się wręcz płaczliwe gitary. To jakby BLOOD RED FOG był medium i transcendencją dźwięków przenosił nas między wymiarami. Do tego dochodzą niesamowite wstawki ambientowe, które nakreślają atmosferę czyniąc przekaz muzyczny Finów jeszcze bardziej dosadnym. Produkcja albumu też nie należy do tzw. czystych, bo w pracy gitar pozostawiono miejsce na brud, ale nie jest to też wydawnictwo garażowe. Taki środek, który tutaj pasuje wybornie. Podkreśla przestrzeń muzyki, rozwija wręcz potencjał hordy. Riffy w dużym procencie są oparte na melodyce, która aż zapiera dech w piersiach. Pozbawiona banalności, pełna emocji które aż rozrywają duszę, wirują jak opętane zmierzając ku pustce. Ta muzyka jest tak bardzo desperacka, rwąca do nikczemnej izolacji… Zakończę to mini sprawozdanie wzmianką o wokalach. B.R.F. krzycząc wydaje się jakby nie miał nic do stracenia. Głos pełen ciemności, pełen Diabła. Zniszczony, opętany, w objęciach śmierci. Chaos, a potem nicość. Czwarty album 'Thanatotic Supremacy’ to bardzo dojrzała, wrząca od pasji i oddania płyta. To podróż przez piekielna otchłanie, astralne wymiary i śmierć. Kwintesencja. Niesamowity i tyle, po cóż się więcej rozwodzić na tym? Wypatrywać i kupować, bo warto!
