Morbific is a death metal band from Finland, formed in 2020. Their music represents a dark fusion of classic, unrefined death metal with a dense, claustrophobic aura of horror and decay. Drawing inspiration from acts like Autopsy, Undergang, and Incantation, their sound is steeped in rot and old-school brutality. The band’s discography includes three full-length albums and several smaller releases. At its core, the group is a trio of seasoned musicians with backgrounds in other metal projects. Their latest effort, released in April 2025, is the subject of this review and marks a continued evolution of their grim musical vision.
Morbific returns with their third full-length release, 'Bloom of the Abnormal Flesh’, which dropped relatively recently—in April of this year. The album features eleven tracks, with a total runtime of under 45 minutes. The instrumental side of the record doesn’t strive for virtuosity—its strength lies in weight, filth, and atmosphere. The band deliberately employs a minimalist approach to achieve a grim and oppressive mood. Guitars play a central role in shaping the album’s dark tone. The sound is heavy, dense, and earthy, evoking memories of early ’90s death metal classics. You’ll hear both slow, funereal riffs reminiscent of doom-death and faster, jagged passages. Rhythm guitar serves as the structural backbone of the songs, while the occasional solos are more expressive than flashy—intended to unsettle rather than impress. The bass is thick, gritty, and often brought to the forefront. It frequently mirrors the guitar but occasionally steps into the spotlight, adding further weight to the arrangements. The drumming is a mix of slow, almost mournful tempos and sudden, explosive bursts. The playing style leans more toward primitive than technical, which fits perfectly with the raw production. Vocals are an integral part of the sonic landscape—a deep, distorted growl that, with its tomb-like resonance, complements the album’s aesthetic, conjuring images of a grisly B-movie horror soundtrack. 'Bloom of the Abnormal Flesh’ is a record tailor-made for fans of old-school death metal. It’s definitely worth a listen.

Ich twórczość stanowi mroczną fuzję klasycznego, nieokrzesanego death metalu z ciężką, klaustrofobiczną aurą grozy i dekadencji. Inspiracje czerpią z dokonań takich zespołów jak Autopsy, Undergang czy Incantation, co znajduje odzwierciedlenie w brzmieniu pełnym rozkładu i oldschoolowej brutalności. W dorobku grupy znajdują się trzy pełnowymiarowe albumy oraz kilka mniejszych wydawnictw. Trzon zespołu tworzy trio doświadczonych muzyków, mających za sobą działalność w innych projektach metalowych. Najnowszy materiał, który ukazał się w kwietniu 2025 roku, stanowi przedmiot niniejszej recenzji i prezentuje dalszy rozwój ich ponurej wizji muzycznej.

Perkusja to kombinacja wolnych, niemal żałobnych temp z nagłymi, intensywnymi uderzeniami. Styl gry jest raczej toporny niż zaawansowany technicznie, co doskonale współgra z chropowatą produkcją. Wokal stanowi integralny element całości – to głęboki, zniekształcony growl, który swoim grobowym tonem idealnie wpisuje się w estetykę całości, przywodząc na myśl soundtrack do makabrycznego horroru klasy B. 'Bloom of the Abnormal Flesh’ to album, który powinien trafić w gusta miłośników staroszkolnego death metalu. Zdecydowanie warto się z nim zapoznać.
