Sargeist is a black metal band from Finland, formed in 1999 by Shatraug — a musician also known for his work with the band Horna. The group gained recognition for its uncompromising, primitive sound, bleak and atmospheric melodies, and lyrics centered around Satanism, blasphemy, and a pessimistic philosophy of nihilism. Their discography includes six full-length studio albums, as well as numerous splits, demos, and other releases. The latest album, titled Flame Within Flame, was released at the end of May, and it is this release that we will focus on in the following review.
The latest release from Sargeist, 'Flame Within Flame’, is an album that faithfully upholds the legacy of the Finnish black metal scene, skillfully weaving brutality with atmospheric emotional expression. Led by Shatraug, the band once again proves to be a cornerstone of this musical movement. The record opens with an intense, grim riff that immediately immerses the listener in the characteristically dark atmosphere of the group. While primitive in form, the compositions are not devoid of melody—rich in contrasts, they range from fierce, wrathful passages to sections steeped in melancholy. The rhythm section is dynamic, and the bass is prominent, adding depth to the overall sound. Lyrically, the album explores familiar themes from previous releases—Satanism, blasphemy, and nihilistic philosophy—but this time, they are presented in a more contemplative manner, adding an extra layer of depth. An aura of mystery and spiritual darkness, so typical of Finnish black metal, hovers over the entire work. 'Flame Within Flame’ is a compelling offering both for the band’s die-hard fans and for those just entering the world of the genre. Once again, Sargeist demonstrates its ability to seamlessly blend ruthlessness with emotional intensity, crafting music that is saturated with darkness.

Sargeist to pochodzący z Finlandii zespół wykonujący black metal, powstały w 1999 roku z inicjatywy Shatrauga – muzyka znanego również z działalności w formacji Horna. Grupa zasłynęła z bezkompromisowego, prymitywnego brzmienia, ponurych, atmosferycznych melodii oraz tekstów oscylujących wokół satanizmu, bluźnierstwa i pesymistycznej filozofii nihilizmu. W dorobku zespołu znajduje się sześć pełnowymiarowych albumów studyjnych, a także liczne splity, dema i inne wydawnictwa. Najnowszy krążek zatytułowany 'Flame Within Flame’ ujrzał światło dzienne pod koniec maja, i to właśnie tej premierze poświęcimy kilka słów w poniższej recenzji.
Najnowsze wydawnictwo Sargeist, 'Flame Within Flame’, to album, który wiernie podtrzymuje dziedzictwo fińskiej sceny black metalowej, zręcznie splatając brutalność z nastrojową ekspresją emocji. Formacja, kierowana przez Shatrauga, ponownie pokazuje, że stanowi fundament tego muzycznego nurtu. Krążek rozpoczyna się intensywnym, posępnym riffem, który natychmiast zanurza słuchacza w typowy dla zespołu mroczny klimat.
