Cryptic Brood is a German band hailing from Wolfsburg, formed in 2013. The group’s sound is a blend of raw death metal, intense grindcore, and heavy, atmospheric doom metal. Their style is often described as “rotten metal of death,” which aptly reflects their sound – brutal, filthy, and steeped in a bleak atmosphere. Their discography includes three full-length studio albums, live recordings, several splits, and a number of smaller releases. The band’s latest work was released in late 2024, and it is this most recent record that will be the subject of today’s review, where we’ll take a closer look at both its musical content and the overall mood it conveys.

’Necrotic Flesh Bacteria’ is the third full-length release from Cryptic Brood, unleashed in November 2024. The album continues the band’s signature stylistic direction, merging uncompromising death metal with elements of doom and grindcore, creating a truly inimitable atmosphere of decay and corruption. Right from the opening track, the listener is immersed in dense, murky soundscapes. Characteristic for the band are dynamic tempo shifts — from sluggish, crushing riffs to sudden, grindcore-infused bursts of speed. Further into the album, one can clearly hear echoes of genre pioneers like Autopsy and Incantation. There are also psychedelic touches that reach back to the roots of heavy metal, at times evoking early Black Sabbath. Vocally, the album spans a wide range — from deep, guttural growls to frenzied screams, enhancing the grotesque atmosphere. The drumming sounds organic, low-pitched, and gritty — firmly rooted in the old-school death/doom tradition. Rather than showcasing technical precision or blistering speed, the band opts for sonic weight and raw emotional intensity. The drums don’t dominate the mix but instead blend into the filthy whole, providing a solid foundation beneath the dark wall of sound. 'Necrotic Flesh Bacteria’ is a release that will resonate with fans of grimy, traditionally-flavored death metal tinged with doom and grindcore. Cryptic Brood to niemiecki zespół wywodzący się z Wolfsburga, powstały w 2013 roku. Twórczość formacji stanowi mieszankę surowego death metalu, intensywnego grindcore’u oraz ciężkiego, atmosferycznego doom metalu. Ich styl określany jest często jako „zgniły metal śmierci”, co dobrze oddaje ich brzmienie – brutalne, brudne i pełne ponurej atmosfery. W dorobku grupy znajdują się trzy pełnometrażowe albumy studyjne, materiały koncertowe, kilka splitów oraz pomniejszych wydawnictw. Najnowsze dzieło zespołu miało swoją premierę pod koniec 2024 roku i to właśnie ten najświeższy krążek stanie się tematem dzisiejszej recenzji, w której przyjrzymy się zarówno jego zawartości, jak i ogólnemu klimatowi, jaki tworzy.

’Necrotic Flesh Bacteria’ to trzeci długogrający krążek zespołu Cryptic Brood, który ujrzał światło dzienne w listopadzie 2024 roku. Płyta kontynuuje charakterystyczny kierunek stylistyczny grupy, łącząc bezkompromisowy death metal z wpływami doom oraz grindcore’u, tworząc niepodrabialny klimat rozkładu i zepsucia. Już otwierający numer zanurza słuchacza w gęste, mroczne brzmienia. Typowe dla formacji są dynamiczne zmiany tempa – od ociężałych, walcowatych riffów po gwałtowne, grindcore’owe przyspieszenia. W dalszych utworach odnaleźć można wyraźne echa klasyków gatunku, takich jak Autopsy czy Incantation. Nie brakuje też psychodelicznych detali, sięgających swą aurą aż do początków heavy metalu – momentami przywodząc na myśl wczesne dokonania Black Sabbath. Wokalnie album oferuje szerokie spektrum – od głębokich, gardłowych growli po histeryczne wrzaski, wzmacniające groteskowy nastrój. Perkusja brzmi organicznie, nisko i chropowato – głęboko osadzona w tradycji death/doom metalu starej szkoły. Zamiast perfekcyjnej techniki i zawrotnego tempa, zespół stawia na brzmieniową masywność i emocjonalny ładunek. Bębny nie wybijają się na pierwszy plan, lecz stapiają się z całością, stanowiąc solidną podstawę pod mroczną ścianę dźwięku. 'Necrotic Flesh Bacteria’ to materiał, który przypadnie do gustu miłośnikom brudnego, klasycznie brzmiącego death metalu z naleciałościami doom i grindcore’u.
