At the outset, it’s worth noting that this review departs from the usual musical territory we explore here, focusing instead on a more traditional, classic sound. The subject is Acid Blade — a German heavy metal band from Dresden, originating from a previous project called Angel Blade. Their first full-length album, Power Dive, was released in August 2022, followed by the EP Shooting Star in October 2023. The group draws inspiration from 1970s hard rock, the NWOBHM movement, American heavy metal, thrash, and punk, crafting a raw and energetic sound. Their discography includes a demo, two singles, an EP, and a debut album, which will be the focus of the following review.
’Power Dive’ is the first full-length album from Acid Blade. Released in December 2022, it serves as a clear nod to the traditional heavy metal of the 80s, drawing inspiration from NWOBHM, American heavy metal, thrash, and punk. The band presents a raw, direct sound, enriched with energetic guitar solos and the versatile vocals of Klay Mensana, who smoothly transitions from high registers to deeper, more subdued parts. The album features eight tracks with a total runtime of over forty minutes. While the material doesn’t bring any innovations to the genre, it captivates with its catchiness and stays in the listener’s memory thanks to distinctive melodies and excellent, though sometimes brief, solos. The bass guitar is clearly present in the mix — adding weight and space, strengthening the rhythmic foundation of the tracks, and perfectly complementing the dynamic percussion and melodic guitar lines. The drums provide a solid foundation for the album’s sound — rhythmic, lively, and full of character. In the drum parts, echoes of classic heavy and speed metal can be heard: fast tempos, distinctive transitions, and strong accents on snare and cymbals effectively drive the compositions. Though not overly technical, the drummer’s performance is precise and well-suited to the band’s style. 'Power Dive’ is a successful debut that consciously taps into metal tradition, radiating youthful enthusiasm and sincerity. It doesn’t break new ground but makes up for it with an authentic approach and solid craftsmanship, appealing to fans of classic metal. If you’re a fan of traditional heavy metal sound, this album is a must-listen.

Na wstępie warto zaznaczyć, że niniejsza recenzja odbiega od muzycznych klimatów, jakie zazwyczaj tu omawiamy, koncentrując się tym razem na bardziej tradycyjnym, klasycznym brzmieniu. Chodzi o Acid Blade — niemiecki zespół heavy metalowy pochodzący z Drezna, wywodzący się z wcześniejszego projektu o nazwie Angel Blade. Ich pierwszy pełnowymiarowy album, Power Dive, ujrzał światło dzienne w sierpniu 2022 roku, a EP Shooting Star ukazała się w październiku 2023 roku. Grupa czerpie inspiracje z hard rocka lat 70., nurtu NWOBHM, amerykańskiego heavy metalu, thrashu oraz punka, kreując brzmienie surowe i energetyczne. W ich dorobku znajdują się demo, dwa single, EP-ka oraz debiut, który będzie przedmiotem poniższej recenzji.
Power Dive to pierwszy pełnowymiarowy album w dorobku zespołu Acid Blade. Wydany w grudniu 2022 roku, stanowi wyraźny ukłon w stronę tradycyjnego heavy metalu lat 80., czerpiąc inspiracje z nurtu NWOBHM, amerykańskiego heavy metalu, thrashu i punka. Grupa prezentuje surowe, bezpośrednie brzmienie, wzbogacone o żywiołowe solówki gitarowe i zróżnicowany wokal Klay’a Mensany, który swobodnie przechodzi od wysokich rejestrów do niższych, bardziej stonowanych partii. Album zawiera osiem utworów, których łączna długość przekracza czterdzieści minut. Choć materiał nie przynosi innowacji w ramach gatunku, to urzeka swoją chwytliwością i pozostaje w pamięci dzięki wyrazistym melodiom oraz znakomitym, choć momentami zwięzłym solówkom. Gitara basowa jest wyraźnie obecna w miksie – wnosi ciężar i przestrzeń, wzmacniając podstawę rytmiczną utworów oraz idealnie współgrając z dynamiczną perkusją i melodyjnymi partiami gitar. Perkusja stanowi solidny fundament brzmienia krążka – rytmiczna, żywiołowa i nacechowana charakterem. W jej partiach słychać echa klasycznego heavy oraz speed metalu: szybkie tempa, wyraziste przejścia i mocne akcenty na werblach i blachach skutecznie napędzają kompozycje. Choć technicznie niezbyt skomplikowana, gra perkusisty jest precyzyjna i świetnie dopasowana do stylistyki zespołu. Power Dive to udany debiut, który świadomie sięga do metalowej tradycji, emanując młodzieńczym entuzjazmem i szczerością. Nie odkrywa nowych terytoriów, ale nadrabia autentycznym podejściem i solidnym warsztatem, trafiając w gusta miłośników klasycznego brzmienia. Jeśli bliskie jest Ci klasyczne heavy metalowe brzmienie, to koniecznie sięgnij po ten album.
