Medico Peste is a black metal band founded in 2010 in Krakow. The line-up of musicians has undergone many changes. The current line-up of the band is: Lazarus (vocals), Heresiarch (guitar), Zerachiel (guitar), Zann (bass guitar) and Adrian Stempak (drums). The discography includes three albums – including one pre-premiere, which is to be released in a few days – and it is this material that today’s review will concern.
After five years of publishing silence, Medico Peste is finally back with a new album, titled 'Aesthetic of Hunger’. I recall with nostalgia the times of their raw demo and debut album – these were hours spent with sounds that pierced my head like drills. Unfortunately, subsequent releases passed me by, somehow blurred in the flood of other premieres. This time, however, their latest material fell into my hands as a pre-premiere – still warm, still smoking. Eight tracks enclosed in about forty-five minutes of filth, neurosis and madness. The beginning of the album seems to tread calmly, almost meditatively, but it is only the calm before the storm – because a moment later, real hell breaks loose: blast tempos, nervous passages on drums and an atmosphere so thick that you could cut it with a knife. The sound seems to be chaotic on the one hand, and incredibly precise on the other – like cutting living tissue with a surgical tool. The guitar riffs present classic tremolo sections, but you will also find here a lot of musical dissonance, which stretches the boundaries of black metal, putting the listener in a state of permanent tension and a sense of being lost – as if someone threw you into a labyrinth of sounds with no way out. In addition to the distorted guitars, there are also those switched to a clean channel, which slightly warm up the atmosphere of this material. I really liked the drums, especially in the faster parts. These slower moments are almost hypnotizing – they pulsate like a deranged ritual, drawing you into a trance and building a sultry atmosphere, in which every kick and snare sounds like an echo of madness. The bass line can delight with its perfect sound. This instrument is perfectly audible despite the blast beats and the wall of sounds. The vocals are a filthy, throat-shredding scream that sounds like a desperate monologue full of rage, paranoia and internal decay, perfectly complementing the sick aura of this album. To sum up this album, it must be admitted that Medico Peste have not only returned – they have come for what is theirs. With full awareness of their own aesthetics and sound, which balances on the border of madness and artistic vision. If you are looking for something more than just another black metal slaughter, this is an album that will blow you away.

Medico Peste to zespół blackmetalowy założony w 2010 roku w Krakowie. Skład muzyków ulegał wielu zmianom. Obecny skład zespołu to: Lazarus (wokal), Heresiarch (gitara), Zerachiel (gitara), Zann (gitara basowa) i Adrian Stempak (perkusja). W dyskografii znajdziemy trzy albumy – w tym jeden przedpremierowy, który ukazać ma się za kilka dni – i to właśnie tego materiału będzie dotyczyć dzisiejsza recenzja.
Po pięciu latach wydawniczego milczenia Medico Peste wreszcie wraca z nowym krążkiem, zatytułowanym 'Aesthetic of Hunger’. Z nostalgią wspominam czasy ich surowego demo i debiutanckiego albumu – to były godziny spędzone z dźwiękami, które wwiercały się w łeb jak świdry. Niestety, kolejne wydawnictwa przemknęły mi bokiem, gdzieś się rozmyły w zalewie innych premier. Tym razem jednak, przedpremierowo wpadł mi w ręce ich najnowszy materiał – jeszcze ciepły, jeszcze dymiący. Osiem numerów zamkniętych w około czterdziestu pięciu minutach brudu, neurozy i szaleństwa. Początek albumu zdaje się stąpać spokojnie, niemal medytacyjnie, ale to tylko cisza przed burzą – bo chwilę później rozpętuje się istne piekło: blastowe tempa, nerwowe przejścia na garach i atmosfera tak gęsta, że można by ją kroić nożem. Brzmienie zdaje się być z jednej strony chaotyczne, a z drugiej niesamowicie precyzyjne – jak cięcie żywej tkanki chirurgicznym narzędziem. Riffy gitar prezentują klasyczne sekcje tremolo, ale znajdziecie tu również mnóstwo muzycznego dysonansu, który rozciąga granice black metalu, wprowadzając słuchacza w stan permanentnego napięcia i poczucia zagubienia – jakby ktoś wrzucił was w labirynt dźwięków bez wyjścia. Oprócz przesterowanych gitar, pojawiają się też przełączone na czysty kanał, które nieco ocieplają klimat tego materiału. Perkusja bardzo przypadła mi do gustu, zwłaszcza w szybszych partiach. Te wolniejsze momenty są niemal hipnotyzujące – pulsują jak obłąkany rytuał, wciągając w trans i budując duszną atmosferę, w której każda stopa i werbel brzmi jak echo szaleństwa. Linia basu potrafi zachwycić swoim doskonałym brzmieniem. Instrument ten jest doskonale słyszalny pomimo blastów i ściany dźwięków. Wokal to obskurny, zdzierający gardło krzyk, który brzmi jak desperacki monolog pełen wściekłości, paranoi i wewnętrznego rozkładu, idealnie dopełniający chorą aurę tej płyty. Podsumowując ten album, trzeba przyznać, że Medico Peste nie tylko wrócili – oni przyszli po swoje. Z pełną świadomością własnej estetyki i brzmienia, które balansuje na granicy obłędu i artystycznej wizji. Jeśli szukasz czegoś więcej niż kolejnej blackmetalowej rzeźni, to jest płyta, która Cię rozpieprzy.
