Druadan Forest is a one-man music project from Finland, created by an artist performing under the pseudonym V-Khaoz. Initiated in the mid-90s, it initially focused on atmospheric black metal with a touch of dungeon synth. Drawing inspiration from Tolkien’s universe, Druadan Forest creates dark, fairy-tale soundscapes filled with ambient structures, forest accents and fantasy elements. After a period of suspension, the project was resumed in the second decade of the 21st century, and its sound evolved towards classic dungeon synth. V-Khaoz is also active in other bands from the black metal and ambient music circles. We have already discussed his releases on our website, and I have been unable to tear myself away from the album 'Portals’ recently. Below we present a review of this album.
The album ‘Portals’ by the Finnish project Druadan Forest, was released in January 2022 under the wings of Werewolf Records and is the fourth full-length material by the solo musician V-Khaoz. Unlike his previous works, ‘Portals’ remains a completely instrumental work. Ambient and dungeon synth aesthetics dominate here. This album consists of six tracks, the total duration of which is about forty-four minutes. Each of the compositions is a multidimensional, ambient exploration of outer space and dark, dreamlike landscapes. The production of the album is at a high level, which strengthens the reception of the musical matter. The bar was also set high by focusing on the graphic layer. The album cover refers to the cosmic theme, and the blue CD effectively attracts attention. If you are open to long, instrumental compositions in slow tempos and are not repelled by the atmosphere of dark ambient and dungeon synth, then you will certainly find something for yourself in this album. There are no guitars here, like in older releases, but they managed to preserve the darkness and a certain atmosphere of anxiety, so this work should evoke much more emotions. I recommend it if you don’t know it yet.

Druadan Forest to jednoosobowy projekt muzyczny z Finlandii, powołany do życia przez artystę występującego pod pseudonimem V-Khaoz. Zainicjowany w połowie lat 90., początkowo koncentrował się na nastrojowym black metalu z domieszką dungeon synth. Czerpiąc inspirację z uniwersum Tolkiena, Druadan Forest kreuje mroczne, baśniowe krajobrazy dźwiękowe, wypełnione ambientowymi strukturami, leśnymi akcentami oraz elementami fantasy. Po okresie zawieszenia działalności, projekt został wznowiony w drugiej dekadzie XXI wieku, a jego brzmienie ewoluowało w stronę klasycznego dungeon synthu. V-Khaoz udziela się również w innych formacjach z kręgu black metalu i muzyki ambient. Na naszych łamach poruszaliśmy już temat jego wydawnictw, a od albumu ‘Portals’ nie potrafię się ostatnio oderwać. Poniżej prezentujemy recenzję tej właśnie płyty.
Album ‘Portals’ fińskiego projektu Druadan Forest, został wydany w styczniu 2022 roku pod skrzydłami Werewolf Records i jest to czwarty pełnowymiarowy materiał solowego muzyka V-Khaoz. W odróżnieniu od wcześniejszych dokonań, ‘Portals’ pozostaje dziełem całkowicie instrumentalnym. Dominuje tu ambientowa i dungeon synthowa estetyka. Na krążek ten złożyło się sześć utworów, których łączny czas trwania wynosi około czterdzieści cztery minuty. Każda z kompozycji stanowi wielowymiarową, ambientową eksplorację przestrzeni kosmicznych oraz mrocznych, onirycznych pejzaży. Produkcja albumu jest na wysokim poziomie, co wzmacnia odbiór materii muzycznej. Postawiono również wysoko poprzeczkę skupiając się na warstwie graficznej. Okładka albumu nawiązuje do kosmicznej tematyki, a niebieska płyta CD skutecznie przyciąga uwagę. Jeżeli jesteś otwarty na długie, instrumentalne kompozycje w wolnych tempach i nie odpycha cię atmosfera dark ambient i dungeon synth, to z pewnością odnajdziesz w tym albumie coś dla siebie. Co prawda nie ma tu już gitar, jak w starszych wydawnictwach, ale udało się zachować mrok i pewien klimat niepokoju, więc dzieło to powinno wywołać znacznie więcej emocji. Polecam, jeśli jeszcze nie znacie.
