NECROMANCER – Arrival of Death

Many bands have appeared on the metal scene under the name Necromancer, and in Poland alone we have three bands that are listed under this name. Today, however, my focus fell on a German band that skillfully combines elements of thrash metal with black metal. It was formed in 2016 in Rostock. It was founded by Berzerker (vocals, guitar) and Hellraiser (drums), who had previously collaborated in other metal bands. In 2019, they released their first demo, „Awakening of the Evil Forces”. The next items in the discography are a split with Abigail, two live materials, an EP, and a debut album from 2023. The following review will concern the latter item.

’Arrival of Death’ is a debut album released in March 2023 under the Evil Spell Records banner in a rather limited edition. The music presented on this album is a very classic, old-school mix of black/thrash metal in a rather raw approach. The album features ten songs that are closed in twenty-five minutes. I must admit that these twenty-five minutes were a surprise to me, but the murderous, fast tempos take no prisoners, and the intensity of the compositions is the essence of extreme art. The guitar riffs draw heavily from the eighties, evoking the spirits of early bands moving in thrash/speed metal climates. The drums are very intense, carrying a wave of cool aggression. This instrument is pushed forward, which honestly swept me away, and all the passages on the drums caused a shiver of emotion. The vocals present a style based on furious, ripped screams and rough growls, which is reminiscent of the classic sound of the first wave of black metal. It is an intense mix of aggression and dark expression, which will stay in the listener’s consciousness for a long time. 'Arrival of Death’ is a material worth recommending to all old-school black/thrash metal maniacs who value authenticity and merciless aesthetics of sound.

Na metalowej scenie pojawiło się wiele zespołów pod nazwą Necromancer, a w samej Polsce mamy chyba trzy kapele, które figurują pod tą nazwą. Dzisiaj jednak moje skupienie padło na niemiecki zespół, który umiejętnie łączy pierwiastki thrash metalu z black metalem. Powstał on w 2016 roku w Rostocku. Założyli go Berzerker (wokal, gitara) i Hellraiser (perkusja), którzy wcześniej współpracowali w innych zespołach metalowych. W 2019 roku wydali swoje pierwsze demo, „Awakening of the Evil Forces”. Następne pozycje w dyskografii to split z Abigail, dwa materiały zarejestrowane na żywo, EP, oraz debiutancki album z 2023 roku. Poniższa recenzja dotyczyć będzie właśnie tej ostatniej pozycji.

’Arrival of Death’ to debiutancki album, który ukazał się w marcu 2023 roku pod banderą Evil Spell Records w dość ograniczonym limicie. Muzyka, jaka prezentuje się na tym krążku, to bardzo klasyczna, oldschoolowa mieszanka black/thrash metalu w dość surowym ujęciu. Na krążku znajdziemy dziesięć utworów, które zamykają się w czasie dwudziestu pięciu minut. Muszę przyznać, że te dwadzieścia pięć minut były dla mnie zaskoczeniem, jednak mordercze, szybkie tempa nie biorą jeńców, a intensywność kompozycji jest esencją ekstremalnej sztuki. Riffy gitar czerpią garściami z lat osiemdziesiątych, przywołując duchy wczesnych kapel poruszających się w klimatach thrash/speed metalowych. Perkusja jest bardzo intensywna, niesie falę chłodnej agresji. Instrument ten jest wysunięty do przodu, co szczerze mówiąc pozamiatało mną, a wszystkie przejścia na bębnach wywołały dreszcz emocji. Wokal prezentuje styl oparty na wściekłych, zdzieranych krzykach i chropowatym growlu, który przypomina klasyczne brzmienie pierwszej fali black metalu. Jest to intensywna mieszanka agresji i mrocznej ekspresji, która na długo zapada w świadomości słuchacza. ‘Arrival of Death’ to materiał godny polecenia dla wszystkich maniaków oldschoolowego black/thrash metalu, którzy cenią sobie autentyczność i bezlitosną estetykę brzmienia.
