Nattverd is a Norwegian representative of the black metal scene. The band was formed in 2010, and its artistic output includes five albums and several smaller releases. It is surprising that the debut album was released only in 2017, but maybe it was worth waiting these seven years, because the compositions created by this band can move many tastes. The line-up includes five musicians who are/were active in other bands on a daily basis, to mention only Horde of Hel, Urgehal, Ragnarok, Djevel and many others. A new album was released quite recently, but we will focus on slightly older material – 'Vandring’ from 2021.
The Norwegians’ album surprises from the beginning with its extremely transparent production and, as for a work that is extreme, it has a lot of catchy melodies that are quickly remembered. This album is a kind of evolution of the band’s previous achievements. It perfectly combines classic Norwegian black metal with elements of melody, melancholy and aggression. 'Vandring’ is a more dynamic work than previous materials, and the speeds used here oscillate around more intense, fast tempos, which are the embodiment of aggression. The album consists of eight songs with a total duration of over forty-two minutes. Guitar riffs move in the tremolo section, generating an aggressive sound and fast melodies. There is also a large dose of solos, which bring out more melancholic melodies that are associated with longing. The drums play a key role here in creating the atmosphere and dynamics of the black metal sound. This instrument is quite strongly pushed forward, which makes it very catchy. We will find here a lot of blasting sounds, but there is also room for more groove moments. The vocals are the embodiment of fury. It is a throaty screeching scream, but it is so well done that you can understand the words. To sum up this album, I must admit that great material has been recorded, and it will stay in your memory for a long time. A certain disadvantage may be the considerable similarity of the songs, but it is not an element that would interfere with the reception of this album.

Nattverd to norweski przedstawiciel black metalowej scenie, który powstał w 2010 roku, a jego dorobek artystyczny obejmuje pięć albumów i kilka mniejszych wydawnictw. Zaskakujące jest to, że debiutancki album ukazał się dopiero w 2017 roku, ale może warto było czekać te siedem lat, bo kompozycje, jakie stworzył ten zespół, potrafią poruszyć niejedne gusta. W składzie mamy pięciu muzyków, którzy udzielają/udzielali się na co dzień w innych zespołach, by wspomnieć tylko Horde of Hel, Urgehal, Ragnarok, Djevel i wiele innych. Całkiem niedawno ukazał się nowy krążek, my jednak skupimy się na nieco starszym materiale – pochodzącym z 2021 roku ‘Vandring’.
Album Norwegów zaskakuje od początku swoją niezwykle przejrzystą produkcją i jak na dzieło, które jest ekstremalne, posiada sporo chwytliwych melodii, które dość szybko zapadają w pamięci. Krążek ten jest swego rodzaju ewolucją poprzednich dokonań grupy. Perfekcyjnie łączy klasyczny norweski black metal z elementami melodii, melancholii oraz agresji. ‘Vandring’ to dzieło bardziej dynamiczne niż poprzednie materiały, a prędkości, jakie tu zastosowano, oscylują wokół bardziej intensywnych, szybkich temp, które są uosobieniem agresji. Na album składa się osiem utworów o łącznym czasie trwania wynoszącym ponad czterdzieści dwie minuty. Riffy gitar poruszają się w sekcji tremolo, generując agresywne brzmienie i szybkie melodie. Jest też spora dawka solówek, które wydobywają bardziej melancholijne melodie, które kojarzą się z tęsknotą. Perkusja odgrywa tu kluczową rolę w tworzeniu atmosfery i dynamiki black metalowego brzmienia. Instrument ten jest dość mocno wysunięty do przodu, dzięki czemu świetnie wpada w ucho. Znajdziemy tu dużo blastujących dźwięków, ale znalazło się też miejsce na bardziej groove’owe momenty. Wokal jest uosobieniem wściekłości. To gardłowy skrzeczący krzyk, ale jest tak dobrze wykonany, że można zrozumieć słowa. Podsumowując ten album muszę przyznać, że nagrano świetny materiał, który zapada na długo w pamięci. Pewnym minusem może być tu znaczne podobieństwo utworów, jednak nie jest to element, który jakoś bardzo by przeszkadzał w odbiorze tego krążka.
