Lament In Winter’s Night is a one-man black metal project from Australia, which was founded in 2019, and the musical whole is the responsibility of The Seer, who is known for being involved in many other projects (Autumn’s Rapture, Carnal Offering, Thy Dark Luminary and many others). So far, the discography includes two albums and several smaller releases – including splits with other bands, as well as compilation material. Below is a review of the latest album, which is available on all physical media. The cassette version was released under the wings of Atrocity Altar, and the CD and vinyl were spat out by Hells Headbangers Records.
‘Whereunto the Twilight Leads’ is an album that can charm listeners who don’t like extreme music with its first track, because it features wonderful chords, full of catchy melodies that are filled with folk sound. At times, there is a chord break that introduces an element of anxiety to these wonderful tunes. The subsequent tracks no longer hide their dark dreams behind a curtain woven from melodies. Of course, they are present here, but the musical material is characterized by a more raw sound. Distorted guitars forcefully penetrate the ears, but there is quite a lot of space here for a guitar set to a clean channel, which builds great melodies, and combined with the severity of the rest of the instruments, it is like a fight between light and darkness. As for the melodies themselves, I must admit that these are not cheerful sounds that are so nicely rooted in the head. These compositions are full of melancholy and longing, which have been covered by a shroud of darkness, and the entirety of this material retains its extreme nature. The album contains six tracks, the total duration of which is over forty-three minutes. I really liked the sound of the drums, which are loud, and the fast parts take no prisoners. Even in slower moments, the low-tuned drums make the foot involuntarily tap out the rhythm. The complete opposite of the melodies created by the guitars is the incredibly sleazy vocals. Harsh and screaming. This is the embodiment of rage and darkness. Perfectly fitted into the instrumental compositions. This album is definitely memorable and does not allow you to put it on the shelf too quickly. It is worth getting to know this album.

Póki co w dyskografii znajdziemy dwa albumy i kilka mniejszych wydawnictw – w tym splity z innymi zespołami, jak również materiał kompilacyjny. Poniżej recenzja najnowszego albumu, który dostępny jest na wszystkich nośnikach fizycznych. Kasetowa wersja ukazała się pod skrzydłami Atrocity Altar, a CD i winyl zostały wyplute przez Hells Headbangers Records.
‘Whereunto the Twilight Leads’ to album, który pierwszym utworem może oczarować słuchaczy, którzy nie lubią ekstremalnej muzyki, bo przewijają się w nim wspaniałe akordy, pełne chwytliwych melodii, które są przepełnione folkowym brzmieniem. Momentami dochodzi do przełamania akordów, które wprowadzają pierwiastek niepokoju do tych wspaniałych brzmień. Kolejne utwory już nie skrywają swoich mrocznych marzeń za kurtyną utkaną z melodii. Oczywiście są one tu obecne, ale materia muzyczna nacechowana jest bardziej surowym brzmieniem. Przesterowane gitary wdzierają się siłą do uszu, ale jest tu całkiem sporo miejsca na gitarę ustawioną na czysty kanał, która buduje świetne melodie, a w połączeniu z surowością reszty instrumentów jest jak walka światła i ciemności. Co do samych melodii, muszę przyznać, że nie są to wesołe dźwięki, które tak miło zakorzeniają się w głowie. Te kompozycje są pełne melancholii i tęsknoty, które zostały przykryte całunem mroku, a całokształt tego materiału zachowuje swoją ekstremalność. Na krążku znajdziemy sześć utworów, których łączny czas trwania wynosi ponad czterdzieści trzy minuty. Bardzo spodobało mi się brzmienie perkusji, które jest głośne, a szybkie partie nie biorą jeńców. Nawet w wolniejszych momentach nisko strojone bębny sprawiają, że stopa mimowolnie wytupuje rytm. Zupełnym przeciwieństwem dla melodii kreowanych przez gitary jest niesamowicie obskurny wokal. Chropowaty i krzykliwy. To uosobienie wściekłości i mroku. Doskonałe wpasowany w instrumentalne kompozycje. Ten album zdecydowanie zapada w pamięci i nie pozwala na zbyt szybkie odłożenie go na półkę. Warto zapoznać się z tym krążkiem.
