Wolftower is a one-man project from Finland, who has been dabbling in black metal since 2015, but the first demo material was released in 2021 and I think it was worth waiting these few years, because this project took up music production seriously and in the discography we will find a lot of material: an EP, two splits, a compilation and an album, which was released in 2023. All the strings in this project are pulled by Vyrtur, who is also known for his participation in Dragon’s Relic. The theme that runs through Wolftower’s work is mainly vampirism
The album begins with a calm, dark ambient, instrumental piece, which is lined with a dark tone. After it, the black metal envelope of the composition enters. Here the second track surprised me, because it immediately reminded me of the iconic Kristallnacht. The music is kept in a rather raw sound. However, this does not prevent it from entering a more atmospheric climate. The tempos oscillate around fast, imposing great dynamics, thanks to which almost every track is a hit here. As befits the Finnish scene, we will find here a lot of melodies, which will certainly stay in the memory for a long time. On the album we will find nine tracks (two instrumental), which total duration is exactly forty minutes. Guitar riffs penetrate the mind with the help of fast tremolo picking. Apart from the previously mentioned Kristallnacht, at times you can feel here a more Finnish scene, where I associate Satanic Warmaster. Of course, Vyrtur follows its own path, but I am not surprised by what it bases its art on. The atmospheric sound here owes a lot to the keyboard instruments, which are perfectly fitted into the guitar lines and fill all the holes. Without the keyboards, the music would not be so sepulchral and demonic. The drums give it a unique character. In fast parts, it shines with aggression, and in slower moments it can hypnotize, addicting to the rhythm being beaten. The vocals are very obscure, screeching and aggressive. There is no room for melodic chants here. If you do not like this form of sound, then this album will definitely not suit your tastes. As for me, it is one of the most interesting materials that have been released recently. It is worth checking out and seeing for yourself the value of this music.

Wolftower to projekt jednoosobowy z Finlandii, który para się black metalem od 2015 roku, ale pierwszy materiał demo ukazał się w 2021 roku i myślę, że warto było czekać te kilka lat, bo ów projekt wziął się ostro za produkcję muzyki i w dyskografii znajdziemy sporo materiałów: EP, dwa splity, kompilację i album, który ukazał się w 2023 roku. Za wszystkie sznurki w tym projekcie pociąga Vyrtur, który znany jest również z udziału w Dragon’s Relic. Tematyka, jaka się przewija w twórczości Wolftower, to głównie wampiryzm.
Album rozpoczyna spokojny, dark ambientowy, instrumentalny utwór, który podszyty jest mrocznym tonem. Po nim już wchodzi black metalowa otoczka kompozycji. Tu drugi utwór mnie zaskoczył, bo momentalnie przywołał we mnie skojarzenia z kultowym Kristallnacht. Muzyka utrzymana jest w dość surowym brzmieniu. Nie przeszkadza to jednak, by wkroczyć w bardziej atmosferyczne klimaty. Tempa oscylują wokół szybkich, narzucając świetną dynamikę, dzięki której niemal każdy utwór jest tu hitem. Jak przystało na fińską scenę, znajdziemy tu mnóstwo melodii, które z pewnością zapadną na długo w pamięci. Na albumie znajdziemy dziewięć utworów (dwa instrumentalne), których łączny czas trwania wynosi równe czterdzieści minut. Riffy gitar wbijają się w umysł za pomocą szybkiego kostkowania tremolo. Oprócz wspomnianego wcześniej Kristallnacht, momentami czuć tu bardziej fińską sceną, gdzie kojarzy mi się Satanic Warmaster. Oczywiście Vyrtur idzie swoją własną ścieżką, ale nie dziwi mnie to, na czym opiera swoją sztukę. Atmosferyczne brzmienie zawdzięcza tu wiele instrumentom klawiszowym, które są idealnie wpasowane w linie gitar i uzupełniają wszelkie dziury. Bez klawiszy muzyka nie byłaby tak grobowa i demoniczna. Perkusja nadaje niepowtarzalnego charakteru. W szybkich partiach aż błyszczy agresją, a w wolniejszych momentach potrafi hipnotyzować, uzależniać od wybijanego rytmu. Wokal jest bardzo obskurny, skrzeczący i agresywny. Tu nie ma miejsca na melodyjne zaśpiewy. Jeżeli nie lubisz takiej formy dźwięku, to na pewno ten album nie wpasuje się w Twoje gusta. Jak dla mnie, to jeden z ciekawszych materiałów, które ukazały się niedawno. Warto sprawdzić i samemu się przekonać o wartości tej muzyki.
