A few years have passed since the reviewed material was released, and I have basically only just discovered this enigmatic band. Not much is known about them, apart from the fact that all the strings are pulled by two musicians who have taken on similar-sounding pseudonyms – Xzælthu-Na is responsible for drums, and Xzælthu-Ra for vocals and guitars. Their first release appeared in 2017, and so far they have collected a few smaller releases, including two splits with Deathcircle and Häretischer Kreis. I was a bit surprised that all three demos have the same name.
As I wrote above, this is my first encounter with the art created by Xzælthu, but from the moment I heard the first sounds, sparks appeared that attracted this work even more to me, leaving a cold shiver on my body. The first track introduces a cold, dark atmosphere maintained in the climate of dungeon synth. Later it is only more raw, but looking at the whole, I have the impression that the raw sound is only a deliberate procedure, because the material is perfectly arranged, thought out and even has a not-so-bad production, which allows you to focus on the instruments used here. The album contains four tracks with a total duration of over thirty-one minutes. The tempos used here definitely oscillate around slow and medium, which gives them a mournful character, mixed with hypnotizing melancholy. This musical matter is like a fucking black ritual. Light has no right to exist here. The guitar riffs are further back and weave a slow, heavy sound. The bass guitar is more audible, which surprised me a lot, because it heats up the atmosphere with a black flame and throws a rather subdued dose of melody. It is very catchy. The drums maintain a high level, and the hits on the cymbals are like stabbing a sharp tool into the sense of hearing. The snare drum adds dynamics to this material. The synthesizers do not bring any softening in the form of melody, but add even more mysterious and horror-filled atmosphere. The vocals are squeaky, screeching and extremely obscure, which perfectly fit into the instrumental setting. If you have not had the opportunity to come across the releases of the band Xzælthu, you have to change that, because the music created by this duo is a cult and if raw black metal is close to you, you will not tear yourself away from this music.

Już kilka lat minęło od czasu, gdy ukazał się recenzowany materiał, a ja w zasadzie dopiero odkryłem ten enigmatyczny zespół. Niewiele o nim wiadomo, oprócz tego, że za wszystkie sznurki pociąga dwóch muzyków, którzy przybrali podobnie brzmiące pseudonimy – Xzælthu-Na odpowiada za perkusję, a Xzælthu-Ra za wokale i gitary. Ich pierwsze wydawnictwo ukazało się 2017 roku, a do tej pory zgromadzili kilka mniejszych wydawnictw, w tym dwa splity z Deathcircle oraz z Häretischer Kreis. Trochę zaskoczyło mnie, że wszystkie trzy dema noszą tę samą nazwę.
Tak jak napisałem powyżej, jest to moje pierwsze zetknięcie ze sztuką, jaką kreuje Xzælthu, ale już od momentu usłyszenia pierwszych dźwięków pojawiły się iskry, które jeszcze bardziej przyciągają to dzieło do mnie, pozostawiając zimny dreszcz na ciele. Pierwszy utwór wprowadza chłodną, mroczną atmosferę utrzymaną w klimatach dungeon synth. Później jest już tylko bardziej surowo, ale patrząc na całokształt, mam wrażenie, że surowe brzmienie jest tylko celowym zabiegiem, bo materiał jest doskonale zaaranżowany, przemyślany i ma nawet nienajgorszą produkcję, która pozwala skupić się na wykorzystanych tu instrumentach. Na krążku znalazły się cztery utwory o łącznym czasie trwania wynoszącym ponad trzydzieści jeden minut. Tempa jakie tu zastosowano zdecydowanie oscylują wokół wolnych i średnich, co nadaje im żałobnego charakteru, pomieszanego z hipnotyzującą melancholią. Ta muzyczna materia jest jak pieprzony czarny rytuał. Tu światło nie ma prawa zaistnieć. Riffy gitar są bardziej w tyle i snują powolne ciężkie brzmienie. Za to gitara basowa jest bardziej słyszalna, co bardzo mnie zaskoczyło, bo mocno rozgrzewa atmosferę czarnym płomieniem i rzuca dość stonowaną dawkę melodii. Świetnie wpada to w ucho. Perkusja trzyma wysoki poziom, a uderzenia w talerze są jak wbijanie ostrego narzędzia w zmysł słuchu. Werbel dodaje dynamiki dla tego materiału. Syntezatory wcale nie przynoszą złagodzenia w postaci melodii, a dorzucają jeszcze więcej tajemniczej i przepełnionej grozą atmosfery. Wokale piskliwe, skrzeczące i niezwykle obskurne, które idealnie wkomponowały się w instrumentalną oprawę. Jeżeli nie mieliście jeszcze okazji trafić na wydawnictwa zespołu Xzælthu, to musicie to zmienić, bo muzyka jaką kreuje ten duet to kult i jeżeli surowy black metal jest wam bliski, to nie oderwiecie się od tej muzyki.
