I got to know ColdWorld’s work some time ago, but I only came across their debut EP now, on the occasion of its reissue by Eisenwald. This material was originally released in 2005 – the same time as the project was created – and the refreshed version from 2021 has two more songs than the first edition. ColdWorld’s work oscillates around depressing black metal, skillfully mixed with dark ambient climates. The band’s discography consists of three albums and several smaller releases, where singles predominate. Georg Börner is responsible for the musical whole.
‘The Stars Are Dead Now’ is a material that is just turning twenty, but it is made with such spirit that it has lost none of its relevance, and the great production means that it is impossible to break away from this music so easily. As befits depressing black metal, we will find here a lot of slow, incredibly melancholic musical matter. ‘The Stars Are Dead Now’ touches on many difficult topics, such as suicide, sadness, pain and death. Despite this depressing sound, there is a lot of atmosphere in the compositions, thanks to the keyboard instruments, which with their melodies take the listener to another dimension, dominated by impenetrable darkness, dripping with a cold look at the meaninglessness of existence. The guitar riffs weave a slow tremolo, which leaves no illusions as to whom it is addressed, and at the same time the excellent sound forces you to play this album often. It gives the impression that the music itself is hypnotizing and addictive. The drums are very well programmed. In slower moments they seem to be just as hypnotizing as the guitars, and when they speed up, the dynamics of the songs increase, thanks to which the song is not uniform and is definitely more catchy. The vocals are a sleazy screeching scream that sounds like the throat is flooded with quickly clotting blood. It makes an impression and adds even more pessimistic emotions. To sum up this album, I have to admit that it holds a very high level and if you don’t know it yet, it is worth getting to know this material.

Twórczość ColdWorld poznałem już jakiś czas temu, ale na debiutancką EP trafiłem dopiero teraz, przy okazji wznowienia jej przez Eisenwald. Pierwotnie materiał ten wydano w 2005 roku – czyli w tym samym czasie, w którym powstał ów projekt – przy czym odświeżona wersja z 2021 roku ma o dwa utwory więcej niż pierwsze wydanie. Twórczość ColdWorld oscyluje wokół depresyjnego black metalu, umiejętnie pomieszanego z dark ambientowymi klimatami. Na dyskografię zespołu składają się trzy albumy i kilka mniejszych wydawnictw, gdzie przeważają single. Za muzyczny całokształt odpowiedzialny jest Georg Börner.
‘The Stars Are Dead Now’ to materiał, który właśnie kończy dwadzieścia lat, jednak jest zrobiony z takim rozmachem, że nic nie stracił na aktualności, a świetna produkcja sprawiła, że nie sposób tak łatwo oderwać się od tej muzyki. Jak przystało na depresyjny black metal, znajdziemy tu sporo wolnej, niesamowicie melancholijnej materii muzycznej. ‘The Stars Are Dead Now’ porusza wiele trudnych tematów, takich jak samobójstwo, smutek, ból i śmierć. Pomimo tego depresyjnego brzmienia, w kompozycjach pojawia się sporo atmosfery, za sprawą instrumentów klawiszowych, które swoimi melodiami zabierają słuchacza do innego wymiaru, w którym dominuje nieprzenikniony mrok, ociekający zimnym spojrzeniem na bezsens istnienia. Riffy gitar snują powolne tremolo, które nie pozostawia złudzeń do jakiego odbiorcy jest kierowane, a jednocześnie doskonałe brzmienie zmusza do częstego odtwarzania tego krążka. Sprawia to wrażenie, jakby muzyka sama w sobie hipnotyzowała i uzależniała. Bębny są bardzo dobrze zaprogramowane. W wolniejszych momentach zdają się równie hipnotyzować co gitary, a gdy przyspieszają, wzrasta dynamika utworów, dzięki czemu utwór nie jest jednolity i zdecydowanie bardziej wpada w ucho. Wokal jest obskurnym skrzeczącym wrzaskiem, który brzmi jakby gardło zalewała szybko krzepnąca krew. To robi wrażenie i dodaje jeszcze więcej pesymistycznych emocji. Podsumowując ten krążek, muszę przyznać, że trzyma on bardzo wysoki poziom i jeśli jeszcze nie znacie, to warto zapoznać się z tym materiałem.
