I just came across a demo tape by the Finnish duo Iätön, which was born in 2022. So far, they have two materials to their credit, and ‘Loitsutulet’ is their debut, which was released in a fairly strict cassette version. In principle, this is another band about which little is known, but that is how it is with underground metal. Drums are handled by Penetreichtus I, and vocals, guitar, bass and keyboards – by Woewrb. So as not to drag this out any longer, I invite you to the review below.

The first, instrumental track on this material sets a dark atmosphere using dark ambient keys and the sounds of nature. The next tracks are raw black metal, which does not accelerate too much in its compositions, maintaining medium tempos, leaving no illusions that this is an extreme work devoid of pleasant melodies. Even those composed on synthesizers are very rough to listen to, and yet they build a great atmosphere that sends an icy chill through your body. I really liked these tendencies towards early Burzum, but this is not the only inspiration that can be heard here. At times I even get the impression that the spirits of Bathory were enchanted in this music, which is certainly a great nod to the first wave of this genre. On the tape we will find three songs, with a total time of just under fifteen minutes. It is a pity that it is so short, because the material hypnotizes with its sound and is memorable. The guitar riffs are very rough, and the bass guitar adds unique depth to them, which quite presses you into your seat. The drums, pushed slightly forward, sound great in low tones, which is why I do not want to tear myself away from these songs. We get sick, gloomy melodies thanks to the keyboards. They introduce a lot of dark ambient flavors. The vocals are a screeching scream, full of venom, and yet can surprise listeners in its pure form, which briefly appears in ‘Loitsutulet’. I recommend this material to fans of raw black metal, which draws inspiration from the old days. If you come across this tape in your store, you absolutely must get it.

Właśnie trafiłem na taśmę demo fińskiego duetu Iätön, który narodził się w 2022. Póki co, na koncie mają dwa materiały, a ‘Loitsutulet’ jest ich debiutem, który ukazał się w dość ścisłym limicie w wersji kasetowej. W zasadzie jest to kolejny zespół, o którym niewiele wiadomo, ale tak to jest z undergroundowym metalem. Perkusją zajmuje się Penetreichtus I, a wokalem, gitarą, basem i instrumentami klawiszowymi – Woewrb. Żeby już nie przeciągać, zapraszam do poniższej recenzji.

Pierwszy, instrumentalny utwór na tym materiale nastraja mroczną atmosferą za pomocą dark ambientowych klawiszy oraz odgłosów natury. Następne utwory to surowy black metal, który nie rozpędza się za mocno w swoich kompozycjach, utrzymując średnie tempa, nie pozostawia złudzeń, że jest to ekstremalne dzieło pozbawione przyjemnych melodii. Nawet te skomponowane na syntezatorach są bardzo szorstkie w odsłuchu, a jednak budują świetną atmosferę, która sprawia, że po ciele przebiega lodowaty dreszcz. Bardzo mi się spodobały te ciągoty w stronę wczesnego Burzum, ale to nie jest jedyna inspiracja, jaką można tu usłyszeć. Momentami odnoszę nawet wrażenie, jakby w tej muzyce były zaklęte duchy Bathory, co z pewnością jest wielkim ukłonem w stronę pierwszej fali tego gatunku. Na taśmie znajdziemy trzy utwory, o łącznym czasie wynoszącym zaledwie niecałe piętnaście minut. Szkoda, że tak krótko, bo materiał świetnie hipnotyzuje swoim brzmieniem i zapada w pamięć. Gitarowe riffy są bardzo szorstkie, a niepowtarzalnej głębi dodaje im gitara basowa, która nieźle wgniata w fotel. Perkusja wysunięta nieco do przodu doskonale brzmi niskimi tonami, przez co nie chcę się odrywać od tych utworów. Chore, posępne melodie otrzymujemy dzięki klawiszom. Wprowadzają one sporo dark ambientowych smaczków. Wokal to skrzeczący wrzask, pełen jadu, a jednak może zaskoczyć słuchaczy w swojej czystej formie, która na moment pojawia się w ‘Loitsutulet’. Materiał polecam dla maniaków surowego black metalu, który czerpie inspiracje z dawnych lat. Jeżeli natraficie na tę taśmę w swoim sklepie, to koniecznie musicie ją zdobyć.
