I have known the work of Aegrus for a long time, but only now did I get my hands on a physical medium – and not just any medium, because it is the debut album of the Finns. The band has been present on the black metal scene since 2005, and its discography includes four albums, three demo materials and several EPs. The band consists of four musicians who are also involved in other projects/bands.
The very first sounds reaching the ears from the speakers show an aggressive attitude, but this is how black metal should be – zero compromises. The compositions on this album take on a sultry, blasphemous atmosphere, and the inserts included with the album seem to only confirm this. This album consists of seven songs with a total duration of over forty-two minutes. As I mentioned earlier, we are dealing with solid black metal with a great musical craft, and since this is a band from Finland, despite its extreme nature, their art carries perfectly composed melodies that pleasantly irritate the hearing organ. We have a lot of fast riffs maintained in the tremolo section, which generates a large dose of melody and gives good dynamics. The drums sound great from beginning to end, and the most striking thing is the perfectly audible hi-hat and low-tuned drums. The vocals are a typical screeching scream that perfectly blended into the sound of the instruments, but I was even more surprised by the backing vocals with their clean, melodic singing, which gives this material a ritual sound. If you like the Finnish black metal scene, then this album will certainly appeal to you.

Twórczość Aegrus znam od dłuższego czasu, ale dopiero teraz trafił mi w ręce fizyczny nośnik – i to nie byle jaki, bo to debiutancki album Finów. Zespół obecny jest na black metalowej scenie od 2005 roku, a w jego dyskografii znajdziemy cztery albumy, trzy materiały demo oraz kilka EP-ek. Kapelę tworzy czterech muzyków, którzy udzielają się również w innych projektach/zespołach.
Już pierwsze dźwięki docierające do uszu z głośników ukazują agresywną postawę, ale taki właśnie powinien być black metal – zero kompromisów. Kompozycje umieszczone na tym krążku przybierają duszną, bluźnierczą atmosferę, a inserty dołączone do płyty zdają się to tylko potwierdzać. Na album ten składa się siedem utworów o łącznym czasie trwania wynoszącym ponad czterdzieści dwie minuty. Jak już wcześniej wspomniałem, mamy tu do czynienia z solidnym black metalem ze świetnie ogarniętym warsztatem muzycznym, a że jest to kapela z Finlandii, to pomimo swojej ekstremalności ich sztuka niesie doskonale skomponowane melodie, które przyjemnie drażnią narząd słuchu. Mamy tu sporo szybkich riffów utrzymanych w sekcji tremolo, co generuje dużą dawkę melodii i daje dobrą dynamikę. Perkusja brzmi doskonale od początku do końca, a najbardziej rzuca się w ucho świetnie słyszalny hi-hat i nisko strojone bębny. Wokal to typowy skrzeczący krzyk, który idealnie wkomponował się w brzmienie instrumentów, ale jeszcze bardziej zaskoczyły mnie te chórki z czystym, melodyjnym śpiewem, który nadaje temu materiałowi rytualnego brzmienia. Jeżeli lubicie fińską black metalową scenę, to ten album z pewnością przypadnie wam do gustu.
