Sühnopfer is a French one-man project that plays black metal. It was formed in 2001 and has so far collected three albums and a few smaller releases in its discography. It may not seem like much, considering that Sühnopfer has been present on the scene for almost twenty-five years, but you have to take into account that Ardraos must be a busy musician, because this is not his only project, and he has been/is involved in: Peste Noire, Petracorensis, Antrum Mortis, Sigillum Diabolicum and a few others. Below is a review of the second album.
If I’m going to listen to melodic black metal, it’s best to listen to Sühnopfer. I have to admit right from the start that this album blew me away. The murderous, fast tempos take no prisoners, and the brilliantly composed melodies are memorable. The album consists of seven tracks with a total duration of almost forty-nine minutes. When I took on this album, I assumed that its sound would remind me of certain compositions from Peste Noire, but this is completely different music. The guitars rip out a lot of melodic tremolo sections and a few stronger chords resound. The folk elements in the form of an acoustic guitar, which sometimes appears in the tracks, are also surprising, but it is so characteristic that it cannot be forgotten and, to be honest, it fits the rest of the composition very well. The drums are a masterpiece in this case. Fast hits and these transitions on the drums make the foot tap the rhythm on the floorboards. Not to be too pretty, the whole lot of madness and darkness is complemented by possessed vocals that tear the throat out on these screams that are dripping with depressing emotions. This material has no weak points, so if you don’t know it yet, you should definitely check it out.

Sühnopfer to francuski jednoosobowy projekt parający się black metalem. Powstał on w 2001 roku i do tej pory zgromadził w swojej dyskografii trzy albumy i kilka mniejszych wydawnictw. Niby niedużo, biorąc pod uwagę, że Sühnopfer obecny jest na scenie blisko dwadzieścia pięć lat, jednak trzeba wziąć pod uwagę fakt, że Ardraos musi być zapracowanym muzykiem, ponieważ to nie jest jego jedyny projekt, a udzielał/udziela się on między innymi w: Peste Noire, Petracorensis, Antrum Mortis, Sigillum Diabolicum i paru innych. Poniżej recenzja drugiego albumu.
Jeżeli mam słuchać melodyjnego black metalu, to najlepiej w wykonaniu Sühnopfer. Już na początku muszę przyznać, że ten album mną pozamiatał. Mordercze, szybkie tempa nie biorą jeńców, a świetnie skomponowane melodie zapadają w pamięć. Krążek składa się z siedmiu utworów o łącznym czasie trwania wynoszącym blisko czterdzieści dziewięć minut. Biorąc się za tę płytę, zakładałem sobie, że jej brzmienie będzie przypominało mi pewne kompozycje z Peste Noire, jednak to jest zupełnie inna muzyka. Gitary wypruwają mnóstwo melodyjnych sekcji tremolo i wybrzmiewają kilka mocniejszych akordów. Zaskakują tu również te elementy folkowe w postaci gitary akustycznej, która czasami pojawia się w utworach, ale jest na tyle charakterystyczna, że nie da się o niej zapomnieć i mówiąc szczerze, bardzo pasuje do całej reszty kompozycji. Perkusja to jest mistrzostwo w tym przypadku. Szybkie uderzenia i te przejścia na bębnach sprawiają, że noga sama wytupuje rytm o deski podłogi. Aby nie było zbyt pięknie, to całego mnóstwa szaleństwa i mroku dopełnia opętany wokal, który zdziera gardło na tych krzykach, które ociekają depresyjnymi emocjami. Ten materiał nie ma słabych stron, więc jeśli jeszcze nie znacie, to koniecznie go sprawdźcie.
