FILTHGRAVE – 'The Unholy Manifestations’

I just got my hands on a digital album by the Norwegian band Filthgrave, which has only ever been released in this format on the music market. The departure from physical media never ceases to amaze me, but you have to deal with it somehow… As for the band itself, it has existed since 2016, and in 2017 it made its presence known on the scene with a demo. I had already caught a glimpse of the band’s name, but it was only now that I devoted more time to Filthgrave’s work. 'The Unholy Manifestations’ is a total blast of energy straight from hell. Despite the fact that Filthgrave’s work is labelled 'black metal’ on the global web, the influences are just as strongly close to death metal. You can definitely hear it in the sinister vocals, which are somewhat reminiscent of Glen Benton’s work. The tempos are quite varied. There are some slowdowns, but the music oscillates around faster speeds. The blasting drums stand out perfectly, giving it great dynamics. The guitar riffs, apart from taking on death metal compositions, also fall into thrash metal climates, which certainly reflects the musical inspirations of the band members. The solo parts mercilessly drill into the mind and remain there for a long time. The compositions on this album are devoid of unnecessary melodies, and maintained in the old style, which still attracts attention. This material lasts less than forty minutes, which somehow fly by too quickly, which only forces the constant repetition of the album. I hope that the musicians decide to release 'The Unholy Manifestations’ on a physical medium, because I would gladly listen to it on my home equipment instead of on my computer.

Właśnie wpadł mi w ręce cyfrowy album norweskiej grupy Filthgrave, który tylko i wyłącznie w takim właśnie formacie ukazał się na muzycznym rynku. Nie przestaje mnie zadziwiać odejście od fizycznych nośników, no ale jakoś trzeba sobie z tym radzić… Co do samego zespołu, to istnieje on od 2016 roku, a w 2017 zaznaczył swoją obecność na scenie materiałem demo. Już kiedyś mignęła mi nazwa zespołu, ale dopiero teraz poświęciłem więcej czasu twórczości Filthgrave. 'The Unholy Manifestations’ to totalny wyrzut energii prosto z piekła. Pomimo, że w globalnej sieci do twórczości Filthgrave znajdziemy przypiętą łatkę ‘black metal’, to wpływy równie mocno ocierają się o death metal. Słychać to zdecydowanie w złowieszczych wokalach, które przypominają nieco dokonania Glena Bentona. Tempa są dość zróżnicowane. Mamy trochę zwolnień, ale muzyka oscyluje wokół szybszych prędkości. Doskonale wyróżnia się blastująca perkusja, która nadaje świetnej dynamiki. Riffy gitar, prócz podejmowania kompozycji death metalowych, wpadają również w thrash metalowe klimaty, co z pewnością odzwierciedla muzyczne inspiracje muzyków. Partie solowe bezlitośnie wwiercają się w umysł i pozostają w nim na długo. Kompozycje na tym albumie pozbawione są zbędnych melodii, a utrzymane w starym stylu, co nadal przyciąga uwagę. Materiał ten trwa niespełna czterdzieści minut, które jakoś za szybko umykają, co tylko wymusza ciągłe powtarzanie albumu. Mam nadzieję, że muzycy zdecydują się wydać 'The Unholy Manifestations’ na fizycznym nośniku, bo z chęcią posłuchałbym tego na domowym sprzęcie zamiast na komputerze.
