Australia’s CONTAMINATED returned this year with their second album. The follow-up to 2017’s 'The Final Man’ is forty minutes of an epidemic of intensity expressed in uncompromising Death Metal densely laced with Grind gravy. The band was formed as a solo project and that’s how the first demo tape 'Pestilential Decay’ was released. The second demo, a year later, was already recorded with the full lineup. There have been a few lineup changes along the way, but what’s more important is that the band has kept an incredibly high form and their second album is a great entry in the musical underground.

The ten tracks featured on 'Celebratory Beheading’ are the quintessential ultra-fast speeds adorned with density and served in a fanatical manner. Death Metal or even Death / Grind that we are served on a platter like a head from the cover is unpleasant, repulsive and the level of intensity reaches its zenith. The Australians are focused on total destruction, lack of catchy patents (well, ok, a few will be found) and an absolutely dark delivery. However, referring to the comparison of their music to their debut album, it’s easy to see that the band has improved their sound. The harshness familiar from 'The Final Man’ has been partly dispensed with, and a clarity of instruments has emerged. As much as possible, of course. CONTAMINATED does not serve us a sterile album, nothing of the sort. The sound is decipherable, but the chaos and a good dose of rawness remain.

Listening to the second album CONTAMINATED we are communing with constant blasts. There is really a lot of it, such is the form of Death Metal that the gentlemen have taken. I don’t mind, because if it’s performed at such a high level, I go into it like a worm into a rotten corpse. The songs are very choking, especially at mind-bogglingly fast tempos. It’s enough that the band gets into the middle speeds, the vocals come in and the whole thing takes on a manic expression. Anyway, the amount of what happens on the drums is a topic for a separate essay. You will easily notice it yourself, because it is impossible to miss this instrument, often dominating. Guitars from the rhythmic muffled riffs serve tremolo parts, combining both elements into an ultra-sick symphony of sounds. Vocally, there are a lot of growls here, and these are supported by shouted parts. I find the bass line here a bit lacking in clearer audibility, but with the musical face CONTAMINATED presents, this is not surprising.

The album is absolutely sick and spreads a fantastic aura of death and decay, and at the same time it’s damn dark and disturbing. Once again, I will say that this is not music exploring new paths in the genre, but on the other hand it is incredibly sincere and made with 100% passion. If you don’t already know it or don’t have it in your collection, I recommend it! Absolute sickness!

Australijski CONTAMINATED powrócił w tym roku z drugim albumem. Następca ‘The Final Man’ z 2017 roku to czterdzieści minut epidemii intensywności wyrażonej w bezkompromisowym Death Metalu gęsto podlanym Grindowym sosiwem. Zespół powstał jako solowy projekt i tak się ukazała pierwsza taśmą demo ‘Pestilential Decay’. Druga demówka, rok później, została nagrana już w pełnym składzie. Po drodze było kilka zmian w składzie, ale co ważniejsze, to fakt, że zespół trzyma niesamowicie wysoką formę i ich drugi album to świetna pozycja w muzycznym undergroundzie.

Dziesięć utworów jakie znalazły się na ‘Celebratory Beheading’ to kwintesencja ultra szybkich prędkości przyozdobionych gęstością i podanych w fanatyczny sposób. Death Metal lub nawet Death / Grind jaki podano nam na tacy jak głowę z okładki, jest nieprzyjemny, budzi wstręt, a poziom intensywności sięga zenitu. Australijczycy są nastawieni na totalne zniszczenie, brak chwytliwych patentów (no ok, kilka się znajdzie) i absolutnie mroczny przekaz. Odnosząc się jednak do porównania ich muzyki względem debiutanckiego albumu, można łatwo zauważyć, że zespół poprawił brzmienie. Znajoma z ‘The Final Man’ surowość została w części zażegnana, a pojawiła się czytelność instrumentów. Na tyle, rzecz jasna, na ile to możliwe. CONTAMINATED nie serwuje nam sterylnego album, nic podobnego. Brzmienie jest czytelne, ale chaos i spora dawka surowizny pozostała.

Słuchając drugiego albumu CONTAMINATED obcujemy z ciągłymi blastami. Jest tego naprawdę dużo, taka to już forma Death Metalu, jaką obrali sobie panowie. Nie mam nic przeciwko, bo skoro jest to wykonane na tak wysokim poziomie, to wchodzę w to jak robal w zgniłego trupa. Utwory są bardzo duszne, szczególnie przy zawrotnie szybkich tempach. Wystarczy, że zespół wchodzi w środkowe szybkości, pojawiają się wokale i całość nabiera maniakalnego wyrazu. Zresztą, ilość tego co dzieje się na perkusji to temat na osobne wypracowanie. Sami to z łatwością zauważycie, bo nie sposób ominąć tego instrumentu, niejednokrotnie dominującego. Gitary od rytmiki tłumionych riffów serwują partie tremolo, łącząc oba elementy w ultra chorą symfonię dźwięków. Wokalnie jest tu dużo growli, a te są wspomagane partiami krzyczanymi. Trochę brakuje mi tu wyraźniejszej słyszalności linii basu, ale przy obliczu muzycznym jakie prezentuje CONTAMINATED to nic dziwnego.

Album jest absolutnie chory i roztacza fantastyczna aurę śmierci i rozkładu, a jednocześnie jest cholernie mroczny i niepokojący. Kolejny raz powiem, że nie jest to muzyka odkrywająca nowe szlaki w gatunku, ale z drugiej strony jest niesamowicie szczera i zrobiona ze stuprocentową pasją. Jeśli jeszcze nie znacie lub nie posiadacie w kolekcji, to polecam! Absolutna choroba!
