ANATOMY’s second album is probably familiar to any fan of cavernous riffs, the slow and persistent rolling of sludge from the speakers and a total sepulchral atmosphere. About that in a moment. As a reminder, let me add that the band hails from Japan and was founded in 2002. So far they have made four full albums, a whole bunch of splits, several compilations, live albums, epics, demos. Well, a whole cross-section of release formats.
The music of the Japanese is, one might say, banally simple. It is based on creating a graveyard, tomb-like atmosphere, full of death and emptiness, with the help of uncomplicated ideas. However, in order to achieve something like this, you really need to feel the atmosphere with your whole self. I don’t know if the gentlemen in the rehearsal room have coffins or access to cemetery crypts, because their music crushes with its weight and the aforementioned atmosphere. It leaves no illusions and no hope. We are a decaying process heading towards the end. Our bodies are nothing more than living matter slowly continuing its self-destruction. Still, lest it be so exclusively gloomy, further adhering to the keynote indicated in a few sentences above, ANATOMY manages to grace us with a pretty cool combination of Death Metal and crusty d-beat. Let the track 'Garbage’ stand in the forefront as an example. With jumping riffs and more than two minutes of pulling the listener out of stupor and intimidation from dealing with a sonic version of death.
’Decaying in Obsurity’ is 90% torment up to the waist in thick slime, moving in a muddy swamp full of decaying flesh, a stench that overpowers the senses, horrors for the mind. The band’s maniacal persistence, track after track, wades in, being devoured by the darkness to finally find oneself in the grave. Keyboards appearing in the background add tar and thicken the atmosphere of the release, making it even more gloomy. The slow riffs, with a few exceptions, are the playing of muffled strings interspersed with chords of open strings. The measured beats are mesmerizing, and the listener feels as if he or she is drifting off towards another dimension. It was ideal to introduce guitar lines without overdrive, literally a few monotonous sounds scrolling like a sample. Great vocals in the form of deep growls, occasional screams and even rarer whispers, give a unique flavor to the whole recordings.
The whole thing comes off superbly, is perhaps not so much unique, but definitely stands out from other bands. Of course, you’ll find influences from Autopsy or Coffins or Transgressor, but as then, so now it’s unavoidable. A massive album, striking with the beauty of death and the themes associated with it. Probably everyone knows it by now, but I’ll recommend it anyway.

Drugi album ANATOMIA jest zapewne znany każdemu fanowi jaskiniowych riffów, powolnego i uporczywego toczenia się szlamu z głośników i totalnie grobowej atmosfery. O tym już za chwilę. Dla przypomnienia dodam, że zespół pochodzi z Japonii i został założony w 2002 roku. Do tej pory dorobili się czterech pełnych albumów, całej masy splitów, kilku kompilacji, albumów live, epek, demosów. Ot, cały przekrój formatów wydawniczych.
Muzyka Japończyków jest, można by rzec, banalnie prosta. Opiera się na kreowaniu cmentarnej, grobowej, pełnej śmierci i pustki atmosfery, przy pomocy nieskomplikowanych pomysłów. Jednakże, aby coś takiego osiągnąć, trzeba naprawdę czuć całym sobą owy klimat. Nie wiem czy panowie na sali prób mają trumny czy dostęp do cmentarnych krypt, ponieważ ich muzyka wgniata ciężarem i wspomnianą wielokrotnie już atmosferą. Nie pozostawia żadnych złudzeń i nadziei. Jesteśmy procesem gnilnym zmierzającym ku końcowi. Nasze ciała to nic innego jak żyjące materia powolnie kontynuująca auto-unicestwienie. Ale ale, żeby nie było tak wyłącznie posępnie, to dalej trzymając się myśli przewodniej zaznaczonej w kilku zdaniach wyżej, ANATOMIA potrafi uraczyć nas całkiem fajnym połączeniem Death Metalu z crustowym d-beatem. Utwór ‘Garbage’ niech stanie w pierwszym szeregu jako przykład. Skoczny riffy i ponad dwie minuty wyrwania słuchacza ze stuporu i onieśmielenia z obcowania z soniczną wersją śmierci.
‘Decaying in Obsurity’ to 90% męczarni po pas w gęstej mazi, poruszania się w zamulonym bagnie pełnym rozkładającego się mięsa, obezwładniającego zmysły smrodu, okropieństw dla umysłu. Maniakalny upór zespołu, utwór po utworze, brniemy w to, będąc pożerani przez ciemności by finalnie znaleźć się w grobie. W tle pojawiające się klawisze dodają smoły, zagęszczają atmosferę wydawnictwa, czyniąc je jeszcze bardziej ponurym. Wolne riffy, poza kilkoma wyjątkami, to granie na tłumionych strunach przeplatana z akordami otwartych strun. Miarowe uderzenia hipnotyzują, a odbiorca ma wrażenie jakby odpływał ku innemu wymiarowi. Idealnym rozwiązaniem było wprowadzenie linii gitar bez przesterów, dosłownie kilku monotonnych dźwięków przewijających się niczym sampel. Świetne wokale w formie głębokich growli, sporadycznych krzyków i jeszcze rzadszych szeptów, nadają wyjątkowego smaczku całości nagrań.
Całość wypada znakomicie, jest może nie tyle co unikalna, ale zdecydowanie wyróżnia się na tle innych zespołów. Oczywiście, znajdziemy tu wpływy Autopsy lub Coffins czy Transgressor, ale tak jak i wtedy, tak i obecnie jest to nieuniknione. Album masywny, porażający pięknem śmierci i tematów z nią związanych. Pewnie zna to już każdy, ale i tak polecę. Cudo!
