HERMITAGE, to nazwa znana mi głównie z debiutanckiego materiału demo 'Hammer of Purity’, który wpadł mi w ręce kilka lat temu. Projekt ten zarządzany jest przez Tsar’a, który odpowiedzialny jest za wszystkie instrumenty i wokale. Prócz wspomnianej wcześniej taśmy demo, w dyskografii znajdziemy jeszcze cztery albumy. Pod koniec 2023 roku ukazał się album 'Balance’.
Jak już wspomniałem we wstępie, minęło kilka lat od czasu mojego zetknięcia z twórczością HERMITAGE, więc postanowiłem odgrzebać tę taśmę, by porównać oba materiały, które dzieli jakieś dwanaście lat, ale co do kompozycji, to trzeba przyznać, że to są lata świetlne. Z prostych i surowych utworów HERMITAGE porusza coraz mocniej epickie klimaty, mocno odnajduje się w atmosferycznym brzmieniu. Na album 'Balance’ składa się pięć utworów, o łącznym czasie trwania przekraczającym czterdzieści sześć minut. To, co podsuwa nam Tsar, to monumentalny black metal z szybkimi tempami i chwytliwymi melodiami. Riffy gitar początkowo są nieco przytłumione, ale w dalszej części albumu wychodzą bardziej do przodu, przelewając więcej agresji zmieszanej z mroczną atmosferą. Oczywiście pojawia się również sekcja tremolo, która narzuca melodię i podkręca dynamikę kompozycji. Nie zabrakło też partii solowych, które wynoszą to dzieło na wyższy poziom. Perkusja świetnie sobie radzi, zarówna w szybkich, jak i w wolniejszych tempach. Najbardziej zachwycił mnie wokal, który jest bardzo chropowatym skrzekiem, ale momentami wchodzi w czyste i bardzo melodyjne śpiewy, które brzmią folkowo. 'Balance’ to nie jest album, który przesłuchacie raz, czy dwa i odłożycie go na półkę. Ta muzyka sprawia, że chce się odtwarzać ją na okrągło.

HERMITAGE, is a name familiar to me mainly from the debut demo material 'Hammer of Purity’, which fell into my hands a few years ago. This project is managed by Tsar, who is responsible for all instruments and vocals. In addition to the aforementioned demo tape, the discography includes four more albums. At the end of 2023, the album 'Balance’ was released.
As I mentioned in the introduction, it’s been a few years since my encounter with HERMITAGE’s work, so I decided to dig out this tape to compare the two materials, which are separated by some twelve years, but as for the compositions, you have to admit that they are light years apart. From simple and raw tracks, HERMITAGE is moving more and more to epic atmospheres, finding itself strongly in the atmospheric sound. The album 'Balance’ consists of five tracks, with a total duration of more than forty-six minutes. What Tsar gives us is monumental black metal with fast tempos and catchy melodies. The guitar riffs are a bit muffled at first, but in the later part of the album they come out more forward, pouring out more aggression mixed with a dark atmosphere. Of course, there is also a tremolo section, which imposes melody and turns up the dynamics of the composition. There are also solo parts that take this work to the next level. The drums do a great job, both in fast and slower tempos. I was most impressed by the vocals, which are a very scratchy, but at times go into clean and very melodic chants that sound folky. 'Balance’ is not an album that you will listen to once or twice and put it on the shelf. This music makes you want to play it over and over again.
