ORLOK to jednoosobowy projekt, który kreuje surowy black metal. Działa już od 2008 roku, a osoba odpowiedzialna za wszystkie kompozycje to Graf Werwolf, znany najbardziej z Satanic Warmaster oraz udziału w takich zespołach, czy projektach jak: Gestapo 666, Vargrav, Horna i wiele innych. W dyskografii Orlok znajdują się obecnie dwa albumy, materiał demo, EP i split z The Carpathian Plague.
Skoro Werwolf odpowiada zarówno za Satanic Warmaster, jak i Orlok, to można podejrzewać, że muzyka będzie chociaż w niewielkim stopniu podobna do twórczości pierwszego projektu. Nic bardziej mylnego, ponieważ Orlok od początku, do końca nastawiony jest na agresywne i surowe brzmienie. Tu nie ma melodii łatwo wpadających w ucho, które mogłyby się kojarzyć z Satanic Warmaster. Ale początek i koniec tego materiału może zaskoczyć melodyjnością. Zwłaszcza ten instrumentalny ostatni numer, który wpada w klimaty dungeon synth. Co do samego krążka, to umieszczono na nim siedem utworów, o łącznym czasie grubo przekraczającym trzydzieści siedem minut. Riffy gitar perfekcyjnie oddają ducha black metalu z początku lat dziewięćdziesiątych. Pierwszy utwór zaskakuje przyjemnym ale wzbudzającym niepokój uderzaniem w struny gitary ustawionej na czystym kanale. Później zaczyna się agresywne granie, które momentami przypomina mi dokonania wczesnego Mayhem. Oczywiście produkcja jest bardzo obskurna i przez sam ten fakt muzyka już na wstępie może być nie przyswajalna dla melomanów przyzwyczajonych do klarownego, wygładzonego brzmienia. Gitara basowa jest dość mocno przykryta dźwiękami gitar elektrycznych i zdominowana do roli tła, ale momentami wychodzi bardziej do przodu, co daje świetny efekt brzmieniowy, zdecydowanie poprawiający dynamikę. Perkusja również jest nieco przykryta całunem dźwięków, ale nie traktuję tego jako wadę. Po prostu wystarczy trochę wytężyć słuch, by cieszyć się całą kompozycją. Wokal jest jeszcze bardziej obskurny niż wszystkie dźwięki instrumentów. To bardzo konkretny black metalowy skrzek, który na długo zakorzenia się w pamięci. Ten krążek jest skierowany zdecydowanie dla fanów surowego black metalu, więc jeśli jeszcze ktoś nie zna tego projektu, to polecam się zapoznać z muzyką zawartą na ‘Black Funeral Holocaust’.

ORLOK is a one-man project that creates raw black metal. It has been active since 2008, and the person responsible for all compositions is Graf Werwolf, best known for Satanic Warmaster and participation in such bands or projects as Gestapo 666, Vargrav, Horna and many others. Orlok’s discography currently includes two albums, demo material, an EP and a split with The Carpathian Plague.
Since Werwolf is responsible for both Satanic Warmaster and ORLOK, one might suspect that the music will bear at least some resemblance to the work of the first project. Nothing could be further from the truth, as Orlok from the beginning, to the end is geared towards an aggressive and raw sound. There are no easily catchy melodies here, which could be associated with Satanic Warmaster. And yet, the beginning and end of this material can surprise you with its melodiousness. Especially the instrumental last track, which falls into a dungeon synth atmosphere. As for the album itself, seven tracks are placed on it, with a total time of well over thirty-seven minutes. The guitar riffs perfectly capture the spirit of black metal from the early 1990s. The first track surprises with a pleasant but anxiety-inducing strumming on the strings of a guitar set on a clean channel. Later, aggressive playing begins, which at times reminds me of the achievements of early Mayhem. Of course, the production is very outlandish, and by this fact alone the music may not be digestible at the outset for music lovers accustomed to a clear, smoothed sound. The bass guitar is quite covered by the sounds of the electric guitars and dominated to a background role, but at times it comes out more to the front, which gives a great sound effect, definitely improving the dynamics. The percussion is also somewhat covered by a shroud of sound, but I don’t see this as a disadvantage. It’s simply enough to strain your hearing a bit to enjoy the whole composition. The vocals are even more obscure than all the instrument sounds. It’s a very specific black metal screech that roots in the memory for a long time. This CD is definitely aimed at fans of raw black metal, so if anyone is not yet familiar with this project, I recommend getting acquainted with the music contained on 'Black Funeral Holocaust’.
