PUTRID EVOCATION – Eternal Gloom: A Void of Agony and Repugnancy

Burning Coffin Records i Dawnbreed Records wzięły na swoje bary i wydali w 2021 roku dwudziestopięcio-minutową Epkę Chilijczyków. Istniejący od 2011 roku PUTRID EVOCATION jakoś specjalnego szczęścia nie miał, bo pomimo świetnej muzyki, nieszczególnie o nich głośno, choćby w samym podziemiu. Cztery demówki, album, dwie Epki i jeden album koncertowy – ok, nie jest tego najmniej, ale kolejny pełniak by się przydał. Panowie są jeszcze zamieszani w takie nazwy jak Praise the Flame, Cadaveric Cult lub Invincible Force i teoretycznie mają co robić poza omawianym zespołem. No tak, ale tylko teoretycznie, ponieważ w każdym z zespołów już od kilku lat jest zastój i brak nowości wydawniczych.

‘Eternal Gloom…’ to oczywiście Death Metal. Death Metal pełen wizji otchłani, absolutnego horroru. Trup śmierdzi tu na odległość, a nieczysta i złowroga aura oplata słuchacza gęstym i lepkim śluzem. Brzmienie, ale zarówno i aranżacje, to jedna wielka smolista materia. Ta absurdalna masa ohydztwa jest doskonała. Pomysły odtworzenia paraliżujących śmiertelnie lęków, eskalowania ich i ukazania jako urzeczywistniającej się grozy, to jedno. Drugą sprawą jest natomiast umiejętność ich zrealizowania i zaklęcia w dźwiękach, co Chilijczycy uczynili doskonale. Największy podziw zrodziły u mnie dwa interludia (utwory nr 2 i 5), które podbiły atmosferę grozy do rzeczywistej manifestacji. Wyczuwam też Lovecraftowski feeling, znajomą grozę maniakom Metalu Śmierci.

PUTRID EVOCATION przywołują dźwięki otchłani, pustki szczerzącej tysiące szczęk w grymasie nienawistnego głodu destrukcji. Epka jest przekrojem prędkości w utworach. Ciężkie zwolnienia, miażdżące i bezlitosne, a do tego partie środka i szybkie. Całkiem fajnym rozwiązaniem było wprowadzenie War Metalowych szybkości, charakterystycznych i miarowo uderzających.

Gitary zdecydowania są tu wiodącym instrumentem. Posępne, jaskiniowe, kreujące chore melodie techniką tremolo z grą na przemian akordami. Siedzi to wszystko wyjątkowo dobrze, jest spójne, ale co najważniejsze – wciąga słuchacza bezpowrotnie. ‘Eternal Gloom…’ to poezja bezspornej zgrozy, makabry, które to gęstnieją i gęstnieją z każdą minutą odsłuchu tej Death Metalowej uczty. Dużą zasługę mają tu też wokale, z świetnym pogłosem echa, pełne mocy i grobowe do granic możliwości. Co jeszcze? No tak, dudniące w tle linie gitary basowej. Jakież to dobre! Ta otchłań pulsuje jak membrana istoty Zła, które nie jest w stanie objąć ludzki umysł. Na koniec jeszcze perkusja. Partie tego instrumentu niczym nie zaskakują, są utrzymane we wzorowej konwencji stylistyki w jakiej porusza się PUTRID EVOCATION. I jak na mój gust, to bardzo dobrze. Dzięki temu, a trzeba jasno powiedzieć, że jest tu mnogość ciekawych zagrywek, materiał zyskuje jeszcze większej charakterności, świadectwa urzeczywistnienia samej Śmierci.

Czy muszę po powyższych słowach polecać ‘Eternal Gloom: A Void of Agony and Repugnancy’? Wydaje się to być bezcelowe, bo wszystkie pochwały zostały wypowiedziane. Dodam jedynie, że czekam z niecierpliwością na kolejny atak Chilijczyków, bo będzie to nie lada uczta. Musi taką być.

Burning Coffin Records and Dawnbreed Records took the chance and released a twenty-five minute EP by the Chileans in 2021. PUTRID EVOCATION, which has been in existence since 2011, somehow hasn’t had special luck, because despite their great music, there hasn’t been much buzz about them, if only in the underground itself. Four demos, an album, two EPs and one live album – ok, it’s not the least of it, but another full-length would be useful. The guys are still involved with names like Praise the Flame, Cadaveric Cult or Invincible Force, and theoretically they have something to do besides the band in question. Well, yes, but only theoretically, as there has been a lull in each band for several years now and no new releases.

’Eternal Gloom…’ is, of course, Death Metal. Death Metal full of visions of the abyss, of absolute horror. The carcasses reek in the distance, and the impure and sinister aura envelops the listener in a thick and viscous mucus. The sound, but also the arrangements, is one big tarry matter. This absurd mass of abomination is outstanding. The ideas of recreating deathly paralyzing fears, escalating them and portraying them as a realized horror is one thing. The second thing, however, is the ability to realize them and spell them out in sound, which the Chileans did perfectly. I was most impressed by the two interludes (tracks 2 and 5), which ramped up the atmosphere of horror to actual manifestation. I also sense a Lovecraftian feeling, a familiar horror to Death Metal maniacs.

PUTRID EVOCATION evoke the sounds of the abyss, the void grinning a thousand jaws in a grimace of hateful hunger for destruction. The EP is a cross-section of speed in the tracks. Heavy slowdowns, crushing and unrelenting, to the middle and fast parts. Quite cool was the introduction of War Metal speeds, characteristically and steadily pounding.

Guitars are definitely the leading instrument here. Gloomy, cavernous, creating sick melodies using tremolo technique with alternating chord playing. It all sits extremely well, is coherent, but most importantly – it draws the listener in irrevocably. 'Eternal Gloom…’ is a poetry of unquestionable horror, macabre, which thicken and thicken with every minute of listening to this Death Metal feast. Much credit also goes to the vocals, with splendid echo reverb, full of might and sepulchral to the extreme. What else? Well, yes, the rumbling bass guitar lines in the background. How good it is! This abyss pulsates like the membrane of the essence of Evil, which the human mind is unable to comprehend. Finally, there’s the drums. The parts of this instrument do not surprise with anything, they are kept in the exemplary convention of the style in which PUTRID EVOCATION moves. And for my taste, this is very well done. Thanks to this, and it should be made clear that there are a multitude of interesting interplay here, the material gains even more character, a testimony to the embodiment of Death itself.

Do I need to recommend 'Eternal Gloom: A Void of Agony and Repugnancy’ after the above words? It seems pointless, as all the praises have been said. I’ll only add that I’m looking forward to the next Chilean attack, as it will be quite a treat. It has to be.
