Na dniach ukazał się w sieci piąty album Teksańczyka, Deathwalkera, w pełni odpowiadającego za twórczość NIHIL INVOCATION. Z racji, iż nie został on jeszcze wydany na fizycznym nośniku, postanowiłem zaczekać, ale jednocześnie opisać poprzednika najnowszego dzieła ‘Blood upon the Gates at Dawn’. Materiał składa się z dziewięciu kompozycji z czego jedna to cover Nargaroth.
Album jest stosunkowo krótki, bo trwa raptem dwadzieścia pięć minut i cóż, widywaliśmy Epki lub dema o dłuższym czasie trwania. Black Metal jaki proponuje nam od dłuższego czasu to proste połączenie Isengard z surowością Ildjarn. Dobrze to wchodzi, bez zupełnych zgrzytów i na spokojnie może być częścią niejednej kolekcji. Całość jest uzupełniona o świetne klawisze, co prawda pojawiające się okazjonalnie, ale dodające niesamowitego patosu i przenoszące nas nieco w stronę wczesnej Greckiej sceny. Jednakże, gdy te milkną, wracamy do Norweskich lasów pokrytych grubymi czapami śniegu.
Utwory bazują na prostych aranżacjach bez zbędnych komplikacji. Zostajemy postawieni w sytuacji, w której słuchacz ponownie wraca do wczesnych lat ‘90-tych i tradycyjnego Black Metalu. Brzmienie utworów jest surowe, aczkolwiek nie ma nic wspólnego z low-fi czy chociażby znalezieniem się w pobliżu hałaśliwej odmiany tej stylistyki. Tak więc – surowo, ale przejrzyście. Utwory są średnich temp, chociaż umiejscowienie ich w tym worku, jest zawyżeniem prędkości kompozycji NIHIL INVOCATION. Każdy z utworów wolno się toczy, siejąc zgniliznę w starym i dobrze znanym stylu.
Gitary sprawnie poczynają sobie na otwartych strunach, zmieniając się epizodycznie w tremolo. Główną jednak techniką jest tu gra akordami. Podwaliny, jakie dzięki temu Deathwalker stwarza sobie pod jeszcze bardziej obskurną atmosferę, działają tu w 100%. Wspomnieć również należy o organicznie brzmiącej perkusji, równie prymitywnej, ale cholera jasna, jak to wszystko pięknie razem działa! Gitara basowa wybrzmiewa wyraźnie, eksponując surowy charakter nagrania. I te wokale… FUKK! Deathwalker chyba zamienił się na gardła z Fenrizem z jego czasów świetności! Na koniec otrzymujemy cover Nargaroth. Absolutnie nie jestem fanem twórczości jegomościa, a wywiady z nim bawią mnie do łez, gdy koleś non stop skupia się na tym jak to opuściła go dziewczyna i wypłakuje swoje żale w odpowiedziach na zadane pytania. Utwór ten w wykonaniu NIHIL INVOCATION to po prostu mistrzostwo, a czyste wokale wyszły fantastycznie, Isengard pełną gębą!
Polecenie tego albumu, to tak jak zrobienie niczego. To po prostu trzeba mieć i koniec. Do nabycia w NWN! i zdało by się by ktoś to wydał na formacie CD. Na zakończenie dodam, że jeśli ktoś chce poczytać kilka słów na temat innego materiału Amerykana, to tutaj jest bezpośredni link.

The fifth album by the Texan, Deathwalker, fully responsible for the work of NIHIL INVOCATION, was released online in days. Due to the fact that it has not yet been released on a physical medium, I decided to wait, but at the same time describe the predecessor of the latest work 'Blood upon the Gates at Dawn’. The material consists of nine compositions, one of which is a Nargaroth cover.
The album is relatively short, as it lasts a mere twenty-five minutes and, well, we have seen EPs or demos of longer duration. The Black Metal they offer us for quite some time is a simple combination of Isengard with the harshness of Ildjarn. It goes in well, without utter guffaws, and can quietly be part of more than one collection. The whole thing is complemented by great keyboards, admittedly appearing occasionally, but adding incredible pathos and taking us a bit back to the early Greek scene. However, when these fall silent, we return to Norwegian forests covered with thick caps of snow.
The songs are based on simple arrangements with no unnecessary complications. We are put in a situation where the listener is once again taken back to the early ’90s and traditional Black Metal. The sound of the songs is harsh, yet has nothing to do with low-fi or at least being anywhere near the noisy variety of this style. So – raw, but transparent sound. The tracks are medium tempos, although placing them in this bag, is an overstatement of the speed of NIHIL INVOCATION’s compositions. Each track is slow moving, sowing rot in an old and familiar style.
The guitars are efficiently played on open strings, changing episodically to tremolo. The main technique here, however, is chord playing. The foundation that Deathwalker thus creates for himself for an even edgier atmosphere works 100% here. We should also mention the organic-sounding drums, equally primitive, but goddamn, how beautifully it all works together! The bass guitar resounds clearly, exposing the raw character of the recording. And those vocals… FUKK! Deathwalker seems to have swapped throats with Fenriz from his glory days! Finally, we get a Nargaroth cover. I’m absolutely not a fan of the guy’s work, and interviews with him amuse me to tears, when the guy non-stop focuses on how his girlfriend left him and cries his sorrows in answers to the questions asked. This song performed by NIHIL INVOCATION is simply a masterpiece, and the clean vocals came out fantastically, Isengard in full swing!
To recommend this album, is like doing nothing. It simply has to be had and that’s the end of it. Available for purchase from NWN! and it would seem that someone would release it on CD format.
