Black Metalowy twór ze Słowacji, z samych trzewi stolicy Bratysławy, w 2021 roku wydał swój debiutancki materiał dzięki Hexencave Productions. Zadziwiającym jest, że materiał ten jest mało znany i nie przykuł uwagi szerszego grona odbiorców. Jest czego tu posłuchać. Słowacy zanim wydali swój pełno czasowy album, nagrali jeszcze Epkę w 2017 roku i singla poprzedzającego 'Obscurantism’.
Zaskoczony jestem masywnym brzmieniem albumu. Intensywność jaka się wyłania z dźwięków jest obezwładniająca, ponad nią daje się wyraźnie wyczuć fanatyzm, opętanie, które zostało z idei przekute w muzykę. Każdy z utworów to masywny hymn. Poniekąd brzmienie może przypominać dokonania zespołów obracających się w nurcie Bestial / War, jednakże aranżacje utworów są absolutnie inne. Słychać tu również naleciałości Death Metalowych riffów, a to wzmaga tylko uczucie gwałtowności kompozycji CRESSET. Z drugiej strony znajdziemy tu wolniejsze aranżacje okraszone klawiszami. Odniosłem wrażenie, że partie instrumentów klawiszowych są silnie inspirowane debiutem Emperor bądź . Wypada to znakomicie. Kontrast, zderzenie intensywności z majestatem jaki bije z linii klawiszy, wzbogaca doznania. Jest mrok, wspomniane już opętanie, zarysowuje się nam tu epicka aura średniowieczna.
Riffy gitar to kolejny rozdział. Skupione na grze akordami przechodzą w tremolo i działa to więcej jak dobrze. Zaskoczeniem są jednak, również wspomniane wyżej, riffy bazujące wokół niskich dźwięków górnej części gryfu gitar, a tym samym wykraczające poza standardowe pojęcie Black Metalu. Kilka solowych partii w tle jest zupełnie Death Metalowych, kojarzących się trochę nawet z pierwszymi nagraniami Morbid Angel. Połączenie partii tremolo z atmosferą klawiszy nadaje nam zupełnie innego wymiaru muzyki, która być może nieco łagodnieje w odbiorze, ale zdecydowanie nie traci nic ze swojej intensywności. Na koniec należy jeszcze wspomnieć o ciekawych harmoniach, które najbardziej są wyraźne (przynajmniej dla mojego na wpół głuchego ucha) w ostatnim utworze.
Sekcja rytmiczna mocno zazębia się z całością, tworząc jeden wspólny organizm. Jest w niej sporo dominacji, jednakże w finalnym miksie działa na równi z resztą instrumentów. Całkiem dobrze słyszalny bas wzmaga gwałtowność odbioru, dając potężnego kopa. Słychać, że perkusista nie jest nowicjuszem i mógłby sporo namieszać w partiach swojego instrumentu, ale zachowuje smak w przekazaniu swoich pomysłów. Bardzo dużo tutaj akcentów na blachach, ciekawe przejścia oraz zamiany szybkości, ale jak mówiłem – zostały one podane w sposób absolutnie zjadliwy i nie sprawiający trudności ani zaburzeń odbioru zawartości 'Obscurantism’. Pojawiają się, również partie mówione, które w kilku miejscach zostały zmodulowane jakby do głosu starego odbiornika radiowego.
Album jest bardzo dojrzały kompozycyjnie i słychać, że Słowacy wiedzą co chcą grać i jak naturalnie im to wychodzi. Warty uwagi materiał, z którego dostępnością nie powinno być problemu. Kolejna czarna perła podziemia.

The black metal act from Slovakia, from the very guts of the capital Bratislava, released its debut material in 2021 thanks to Hexencave Productions. Surprisingly, the material is little known and has not caught the attention of a wider audience. There is something to listen to here. The Slovaks, before releasing their full-length album, still recorded an EP in 2017 and a single preceding 'Obscurantism’.
I was surprised by the album’s massive sound. The intensity that emerges from the sounds is overpowering, above it you can clearly sense the fanaticism, the possession that has been transformed from ideas into music. Each track is a massive anthem. In a way the sound may resemble the achievements of bands revolving in the Bestial / War genre, however the arrangements of the songs are absolutely different. One can also hear traces of Death Metal riffs, and this only increases the feeling of violence in CRESSET’s compositions. On the other hand, we can find here slower arrangements laced with keyboards. I got the impression that the keyboard parts are strongly inspired by Emperor’s debut. It comes out brilliantly. The contrast, the clash of intensity with the majesty that beats from the keyboard lines, enriches the experience. There is darkness, the aforementioned possession, we are outlined here with an epic medieval aura.
The guitar riffs are another chapter. Focused on chord playing, they transition into tremolo and it works more than well. The surprise, however, is, also mentioned above, the riffs based around the low notes of the upper part of the guitar neck, and thus going beyond the standard notion of Black Metal. A few solo parts in the background are completely Death Metal, associating a bit even with the first Morbid Angel recordings. The combination of tremolo parts and atmospheric keyboards gives us a completely different dimension to the music, which perhaps mellows a bit in perception, but definitely loses none of its intensity. Last but not least, there are some interesting harmonies, which are most pronounced (at least to my half-deaf ear) in the last track.
The rhythm section strongly meshes with the whole, forming one common organism. There is a lot of dominance in it, however, in the final mix it works on par with the rest of the instruments. The bass, which is quite audible, enhances the vehemence of the reception, giving a powerful kick. You can hear that the drummer is not a novice and could stir a lot in the parts of his instrument, but he retains taste in conveying his ideas. There are a lot of accents on the cymbals here, interesting transitions and speed swaps, but as I said – they were given in a way that is absolutely virulent and does not cause difficulties or disturbance in the reception of the content of 'Obscurantism’. There are also spoken parts, which in several places have been modulated as if to the voice of an old radio receiver.
The album is very mature compositionally and one can hear that the Slovaks know what they want to play and how naturally it comes out for them. Noteworthy material, the availability of which should not be a problem. Another black pearl of the underground.
