WINTERSTORM to dość nowy twór na black metalowej scenie; do życia został powołany w 2020 roku. Jakiś czas temu miałem okazję poznać twórczość tego ekwadorskiego (w zasadzie jest to kapela międzynarodowa) zespołu za sprawą splitu 'Night of Consecration’ – na którym między innymi można usłyszeć WAMPYRIC RITES. Gdy zobaczyłem album w sklepie, nie wahałem się nawet sekundy i od razu dokonałem zakupu. W skład zespołu wchodzi trzech muzyków, którzy znani są z udziału w wielu innych zespołach, czy projektach, ale nie będę tu rzucał nazwami, bo naprawdę jest tego dużo. Zapraszam zatem do poniższej recenzji.
Pierwsze dźwięki, które dobiegły z krążka ‘Vinterstormener’ wrzuciły mnie do pełnego mroku i średniowiecznego chłodu lochu za prawą intro w klimacie dungeon synth, by następnie brutalnie z niego wyrwać i spuścić łomot surowym black metalem w oldschoolowej odsłonie. Na album składa się siedem utworów o łącznym czasie wynoszącym niemal trzydzieści jeden minut. Muzyka bardzo przypomina mi dokonania wspomnianego już we wstępie WAMPYRIC RITES, nie ma się też co temu dziwić, bo wokalista udziela się również w tej kapeli. Jednak w tym przypadku wcale nie ma tak dużo dark ambientowych odskoczni. Materia muzyczna to sięgający wczesnych lat dziewięćdziesiątych agresywny black metal w prostym wykonaniu, bez żadnych udziwnień. Ograniczenie melodyjności tego materiału jest wielką zaletą, a nawet ulgą, bo ostatnio często można trafić na przesłodzone melodiami, totalnie bez klimatu materiały. Przyglądając się dogłębniej tej plątaninie dźwięków, oprócz agresji odczujemy tu również potok melancholii, która chwyta za serce i wywołuje uczucie tęsknoty. Materiał utrzymany jest w szybkich tempach, ale występują też nieliczne zwolnienia. Gitary prują szybkie riffy utrzymane w sekcji tremolo, czasami dochodzą do tego bardzo mocne akordy, dzięki czemu powstaje monumentalna ściana dźwięku wypełnionego mrocznymi melodiomi. Perkusja dość prosta, ale z fajnymi, szybkimi przejściami na bębnach wzmacnia agresywną stronę tego albumu. Wokal wydaje się być esencją zła, brzmi zdecydowanie upiornie, tworzy wraz z muzyką cmentarną atmosferę. Przyznam się bez bicia, że ta płyta w całości uderzyła w moje gusta i nie ma tu słabszego utworu, a całość mija zdecydowanie zbyt szybko. Z mojej strony mogę jedynie polecić zakup tego krążka.

WINTERSTORM is a fairly new creation on the black metal scene; it was brought to life in 2020. Some time ago I had the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of this Ecuadorian (in fact, it’s an international band) band through the split 'Night of Consecration’ – on which, among other things, you can hear WAMPYRIC RITES. When I saw the album in the store, I didn’t even hesitate for a second and immediately made a purchase. The band consists of three musicians who are known for their participation in many other bands or projects, but I won’t throw names around here, because there really is a lot.
The first sounds that came from the album 'Vinterstormener’ threw me into a dungeon full of darkness and medieval coldness behind the right intro in the climate of dungeon synth, only to then brutally tear me out of it and let me down with raw old-school black metal. The album consists of seven tracks with a total running time of almost thirty-one minutes. The music reminds me very much of the achievements of WAMPYRIC RITES, already mentioned in the introduction, and it’s no wonder, since the vocalist also contributes to this band. However, there are not so many dark ambient outliers in this case. The musical matter is an aggressive black metal going back to the early nineties, in a straightforward execution, without any eccentricities. The limitation of the melodiousness of this material is a great advantage and even a relief, because lately one can often come across melodically over-sweetened, totally atmosphereless material. Taking a deeper look at this tangle of sounds, in addition to aggression, we can feel here a stream of melancholy that grabs the heart and evokes a feeling of longing. The material is kept at fast tempos, but there are also a few slowdowns. The guitars plow fast riffs held in a tremolo section, sometimes accompanied by very powerful chords, resulting in a monumental wall of sound filled with dark melodies. The drums are quite simple, but with nice, fast drum transitions enhance the aggressive side of this album. The vocals seem to be the essence of evil, sounding decidedly eerie, creating a graveyard atmosphere along with the music. I’ll freely admit that this album hit my tastes in its entirety, and there is no weaker track here, and the whole thing passes far too quickly. For my part, I can only recommend the purchase of this disc.
