Niedawno ukazał się najnowszy album mistycznego projektu ACHERONTAS, dzisiaj jednak chciałem sie skupić na jego poprzedniku. W 2020 roku dzięki rodzimej Agonia Records ukazał się 'Psychic Death – The Shattering of Perceptions’, który jak się łatwo domyślić lub wywnioskować jeśli go słyszeliście, jest trwałą kontynuacją tego co grecki projekt reprezenował sobą od początku. Trwały rozwój, zarówno muzyczny jak i personalny (co mozna wychwycić w muzyce), jest dla mnie osobiście niesamowitym faktorem, cechą unikatową muzyki ACHERONTAS.

Od 1996 roku, V. Priest jest aktywny i kontyynuuje swoją wizję okultyzmu, magii, przenosząc ją w wymiar sztuki muzycznej. Początkowo jako Worship wydając zaledwie jedno demo „Through the Dark Age We Are Dreaming” wznowione niedawno na kasecie przez Mahamvantara Arts Records, by przemianować się następnie na Stutthof. W 2007 roku następuje zamknięcie rozdziału Stutthof i powstaje ACHERONTAS. Moim zdaniem każdy z tych pojektów miał swoje miejsce i swój czas będąc częścią czegoś większego. Jak poszczególne wątki w jednej opowieści, tak muzyka V. Priesta ewoulowała i zmieniała się na przestrzeni lat. Nie drastycznie, nie gwałtownie, ale subtelnie zachowując swoje korzenie.

Przejdźmy do zawartości „Psychic Death – The Shattering of Perceptions”. Osiem utworów i łączny czas trwania ponad pięćdziesiąt trzy minuty – bardzo łatwo można wywnioskować jak rozbudowane będą hymny zawarte na ósmym albumie Greków. Od pierwszego dźwięku uderzania w rytualne naczynie wiemy czego się spodziewać. Bedzie to uczta, prawdziwa dystyngowana uroczystość dla naszych zmysłów, pełna magii, tajemniczości i zgłebiania okultyzmu. Wyjątkowe, wielowarstwowe aranżacje płyną z głosników w eter snując gęstą mgłę… Nie wiem jak to ubrać w słowa, ale każdy z albumów i pomniejszych wydawnictw Greków jest dla mnie przeniesiem świadomości w inny wymiar. Wspaniała melodyka riffów koresponduje wzorowo z wokalami, z akcentowanymi partiami utworów przez partie perkusji. Do tego wszystkiego dochodzą partie wykorzystanych odgłosów z rytuałów i przedmiotów w nich użytych… Black Metal w odniesieniu do muzyki ACHERONTAS to moim zdaniem zbyt wąski termin. Oczywiście, nie mamy jakoby inkorporacji elementów z innych stylistyk, aczkolwiek pełne spektrum muzyki jakiej doświadczamy w wykonaniu tej enklawy jest tak ogromna, tak masywna, że trudno wrzucić tą sztuke tylko do tej jednej szufladki. Album – pomimo emanowania niesamowitą pasją, szczerością, oddaniem i przede wszystkim dużej wiedzy w kwestii okultyzmu – jest bardzo muzyczny. Słychać, że to nie jest prosta muzyka. Każdy z elementów jest niesamowicie przemyślany, ulokowany akurat w danym miejscu aranżacji bez przypadku. Sposób pisania tych utworów zaskakuje monstrualnym wachlażem pomysłów, które zostały przekute na tak wspaniałe dźwięki. Różnorodność wokali jeszcze bardziej wpływa na postrzeganie tego albumu jako prawdziwego dzieła. Fragmenty mówione, tym bardziej czystą Greką, wywierają potężne wrażenie, wywołując podniosłą aurę pełną powagi i niemalże królewskiej dostojności. Na tym koniec, tego trzeba posłuchać i przeżyć, doznać na własny sposób.

Recently the newest album of mystical project ACHERONTAS was released, but today I wanted to focus on its predecessor. In 2020, thanks to their native Agonia Records, 'Psychic Death – The Shattering of Perceptions’ was released, which as you can easily guess, or deduce if you’ve heard it, is a solid continuation of what the Greek project represented from the beginning. The constant development, both musically and personally (which can be seen in the music), is for me personally an amazing factor, a unique feature of ACHERONTAS’ music.

Since 1996, V. Priest is active and continues his vision of the occult, magic, moving it to the dimension of musical art. Initially as Worship releasing only one demo „Through the Dark Age We Are Dreaming” recently re-released on cassette by Mahamvantara Arts Records, then renamed to Stutthof. In 2007 the Stutthof chapter is closed and ACHERONTAS is formed. In my opinion each of these projects had its place and time as part of something bigger. As the individual threads in one story, so the music of V. Priest’s music evolved and changed over the years. Not drastically, not violently, but subtly keeping its roots.

Let’s move on to the content of „Psychic Death – The Shattering of Perceptions”. Eight tracks and a total duration of over fifty-three minutes – it is very easy to deduce how elaborate the anthems contained on the Greeks’ eighth album will be. From the first sound of hitting the ritual vessel we know what to expect. It will be a feast, a real distinguished celebration for our senses, full of magick, mystery and exploration of the occult. Unique, multi-layered arrangements flow from the speakers into the ether weaving a thick fog… I don’t know how to put it into words, but each of the albums and smaller releases of the Greeks is for me a transfer of consciousness into another dimension. Great melodics of riffs corresponds perfectly with vocals, with accented parts of songs by drum parts. On top of all this there are parts of used sounds in rituals and objects used in them… Black Metal in relation to ACHERONTAS music is too narrow a term in my opinion. Of course, we don’t have any incorporation of elements from other styles, but the full spectrum of music that we experience in the performance of this enclave is so huge, so massive, that it is difficult to put this art only into this one drawer. The album – despite emanating with incredible passion, sincerity, devotion and, above all, great knowledge of the occult – is very musical. You can hear that this is not simple music. Each of the elements is incredibly well thought out, placed exactly in the given place of the arrangement without any randomness. The way of writing these tracks surprises with monstrous range of ideas which were transformed into such wonderful sounds. The variety of vocals further influences the perception of this album as a true masterpiece. The spoken parts, even more so in pure Greek, make a powerful impression, evoking a solemn aura full of solemnity and almost regal dignity. That’s the end of it, you have to listen to it and experience it in your own way.
