WINDSTORM to duet pochodzenia Greckiego, rezydujący w Środkowej Macedonii. Dyskografia tego projektu nie powala na kolana ilością wydawnictw, raczej skłaniałbym się ku stwierdzeniu, że panowie nie czują przymusu wydawania regularnie jakichkolwiek nagrań. WINDSTORM powstał w roku 2006 i do tej pory ma na swoim koncie raptem 3 wydane materiały. Nie ma to oczywiście przełożenia na podejrzenie o brak pomysłowości Greków. Kaseta, którą dzisiaj wziąłem sobie na cel recenzji, jest naprawdę konkretem. Łącząc w sobie elementy melodyjności tamtejszej sceny z zimnym i a’la norweskim Black Metalem, stanowi uderzenie warte zwrócenia uwagi. O tym jednak poniżej.
Zacznę może od tego, że jestem niesamowicie rad z faktu, że Grecy nie użyli automatu perkusyjnego. Nie trudno sobie wyobrazić słuchając 'Eternal Gods Forgotten’, że pudełko udające perkusję zniszczyło by tu klimat bezpowrotnie. Żywioł i owa surowość prostoty dźwięku, to siła napędowa tej Ep’ki. Archaiczne riffy gitar, czasem aż zardzewiałe w swej oczywistości, tną niemiłosiernie słuchacza. Nawet wspomniana już melodyjność poszczególnych partii nie przynosi ukojenia, jeszcze bardziej przytłacza swym rozmiarem monumentalizmu. Proste aranżacje tylko temu sprzyjają. Nie ma miejsca na zbędne wirtuozerie, udziwnienia, sympatyzowanie z niezbadanymi rejonami gatunku. Nie, WINDSTORM wziął sobie na celownik klasyczny Black Metal (co prawda łączący w sobie jakby dwa różne bieguny stylistyczne) i wykreował mroźną muzykę. Ów chłód miesza się i łączy atmosferą zapomnianych czasów, być może nawet tytułowych, zapomnianych bogów. Ta aura w połączeniu z żywiołem brzmienia, tworzą wspólnie moc huraganu. Skostniałe, niemodne (tfu, co za kurwa słowo!) wręcz aranżacje dopełniają czary. Perkusja niczym bębny wojny, precyzyjnie i w anachroniczny sposób, wybija swe tempa. Od średnich po szybkie, a wszystkie utrzymane do minimum. Wokale to ciąg dalszy hermetycznego trzymania się wytycznych gatunku. Typowe i wpasowujące się w 100% wrzaski i skrzeczenia wokalisty, dopełniają kielich trunkiem, który jest skierowany tylko dla zaciekłych tradycjonalistów Black Metalu.
Na podsumowanie dodam tylko, że zdaję sobie sprawę że nie jest to wyborne dzieło w gatunku Black Metalu. Dodam również, że z drugiej strony mało mnie to obchodzi. Jest surowe, a przedstawia sobą wystarczająco. Rzetelnie i bez najmniejszych potknięć. Tak więc, kto jeszcze nie ma / nie zna, niech sięga po WINDSTORM. Tym bardziej, że Black Metal w tym obliczu, pasuje idealnie do nośnika jakim jest kaseta magnetofonowa.

WINDSTORM is a duo of Greek origin, residing in Central Macedonia. The discography of this project does not knock with the number of releases, I would rather lean towards the statement that the gentlemen do not feel the compulsion to release any recordings regularly. WINDSTORM was formed in 2006 and so far has only 3 released materials.WICHURA was formed in 2006 and so far has only 3 released materials. Of course, this does not mean that the Greeks are no good at creativity. The cassette, which I took today to review, is really a definite. Combining elements of melodiousness of the local scene with cold and yet Norwegian Black Metal, it is a hit worth paying attention to. More on that below, though.
Let me start with the fact that I’m very happy that the Greeks didn’t use a drum machine. It’s not hard to imagine, listening to 'Eternal Gods Forgotten’, that a box pretending to be drums would ruin the atmosphere here irrevocably. The driving force of this EP is the rawness and simplicity of sound. Archaic guitar riffs, sometimes even rusty in their obviousness, mercilessly cut the listener. Even the already mentioned melodiousness of the individual parts does not bring any relief, it overwhelms even more with its monumental size. Simple arrangements only contribute to this. There’s no room for unnecessary virtuosity, weirdness, sympathizing with unexplored areas of the genre. No, WINDSTORM took the classic Black Metal (which combines in itself two different stylistic poles) and created frosty music. This coldness is mixed and matched by the atmosphere of forgotten times, maybe even by the title, forgotten gods. This aura, combined with the elemental sound, together create the power of a hurricane. Ossified, unfashionable arrangements complete the magic. The drums, warlike, precisely and in an anachronistic way, beat out their tempos. From medium to fast, and all kept to a minimum. Vocals are a continuation of the hermetic adherence to the guidelines of the genre. Typical and fitting in 100% screams and screeches of the vocalist, complete the cup with liquor, which is directed only to the fierce traditionalists of Black Metal.
In conclusion, let me just add that I realize that this is not a delectable work in the Black Metal genre. I’ll also add that on the other hand I don’t care much about it. It’s raw and it presents itself enough. Reliably and without the slightest stumbling. So, who doesn’t have / doesn’t know yet, let’s reach for WINDSTORM. The more so, because Black Metal in this face, fits perfectly to the medium which is the cassette tape.
