Istniejący już od 1990 roku DECAYED, to jeden z pionierskich zespołów z Portugalii jeśli mowa o podziemnym Black Metalu. Na swoim 11-stym albumie nie znajdziemy żadnych ale to absolutnie żadnych nowości w ich stylistyce gry. Do dzisiaj te trio hołduje starej szkole gry. W tak podanej stylistyce gry, nie ma tutaj czasu na urozmaicenia i wkraczanie w strefy duchowe. Zresztą, wystarczy spojrzeć na tytuły utworów by zauważyć, że w przypadku DECAYED siła leży w prostocie. J.A., który to do dnia dzisiejszego stoi za sterami tej hordy uparcie realizuje swoją wizję. Tym niemniej zostałem mile zaskoczony gdy w 2011 roku szeregi DECAYED zasilił Vulturius znany przede wszystkim ze swojego solowego projektu Irae oraz współtworząc wraz z liderem Corpus Christii twór będący czystym hołdem dla Les Legiones Noire, a mianowicie Morte Incandescente. Muzyków przewinęło się sporo przez hordę, ale nie ma się czemu dziwić – to w końcu 29 rok w undergroundzie, a u ludzi różnie z determinacją do grania bywa. No ale te dywagacje pozostawmy na boku, czas przejść do meritum tej recenzji.
’The Burning of Heaven’ to jak wspomniałem 11-sty pełen album zespołu, ale jakby podliczyć wszystkie dema, splity i EP’ki to otrzymujemy wynik 59 wydawnictw. Nieźle, prawda? Wspominałem już o determinacji J.A., ale trzeba to jemu przyznać raz jeszcze – facet jest opętany Diabelskim Metalem! Przecież poza DECAYED, ma jeszcze poboczne hordy w których tworzy: Hoth, Alastor i Thugnor. Należy dodać, że Portugalczycy nie odnieśli żadnego sukcesu ze swoją muzą. Ot, mają rzeszę oddanych fanów i tyle a grają dla własnego zaspokojenia ego. Przejdźmy zatem do albumu. Materiał zawarty na nim jest stricte gitarowy, bardzo dynamiczny ale nie pozbawiony też pewnej dozy klimatu. Jak wspomniałem, zespół porusza się wedle reguł starej szkoły, więc nie ma tutaj parcia by całkowicie odrzucić takie elementy jak instrumenty klawiszowe czy nawet sporadyczne kobiece wokale. Właśnie dzięki temu, że klawisze momentami pojawiają się w tle reszty instrumentarium, materiał zyskuje na jakby lekkim zróżnicowaniu. Poza ciągłym bombardowaniem ostrymi riffami aranżacjami, mamy wplecione elementy przywodzące na myśl wymieszany patos z niepokojem. Owa makabreska bardzo dobrze się sprawdza w kontraście ze stricte Black Metalowymi patentami. Aha, zapomniałem dodać że w muzyce DECAYED tkwi jakby ogniwo mrocznego rock’n’rolla. Utwory potrafią być rozbudowane, w żaden sposób nie hipnotyczne, a trwające ponad 10 minut jak choćby utwór tytułowy. Brzmienie jest czytelne, pozbawione większej chropowatości, ale twardo i bez wahania nawiązujące do starych nagrań sprzed ponad 20-stu lat. Szczerze mówiąc to przy takich dźwiękach nie ma za wiele 'pierdolenia’, ot 'The Burning of Heaven’ to kawał zajebistego Metalowego grania, którego szczyle nie łykną a starzy wyjadacze docenią. Zero podążania za trendami, zero oglądania się za siebie, pieprzony Black Metal z dużym naciskiem na drugi człon owej łatki. Według mnie rewelacja w kategorii chamskiego hołdu dla czasów minionych i trzymania się sztywno określonej stylistyki bez względu czy to się komuś podoba czy nie. Po opisanym tutaj albumie, ukazał się już dwunasty materiał hordy, więc przyjdzie i czas opisać owe dzieło. Póki co, niech płoną tytułowe niebiosa, a nam pozostaje tylko dopingować owe spustoszenie.

DECAYED, existing since 1990, is one of the pioneering bands from Portugal when it comes to underground Black Metal. On their 11th album you will find nothing but absolutely no novelties in their style of playing. To this day the trio still follows the old school of metal playing. In such a given style of performing, there is no time for variety and entering into spiritual zones. Anyway, it’s enough to look at the track titles to notice that in case of DECAYED the strength lies in simplicity. J.A., who to this day stands at the helm of this horde, stubbornly pursues his vision. Nevertheless, I was pleasantly surprised when in 2011 the ranks of DECAYED were joined by Vulturius, known primarily from his solo project Irae and co-creating with the leader of Corpus Christii a creation that is a pure homage to Les Legiones Noire, namely Morte Incandescente. A lot of musicians went through the horde, but it’s no wonder – after all it’s the 29th year in the underground and people have different determination to play. But let’s leave those divagations aside, it’s time to get to the point of this review.
The Burning of Heaven’ is, as I mentioned, the 11th full-length album of the band, but if we count all demos, splits and EPs, we get the result of 59 releases. Not bad, right? I already mentioned J.A.’s determination, but you have to admit it once again – the guy is possessed by Devilish Metal! After all, apart from DECAYED, he also has side hordes in which he creates: Hoth, Alastor and Thugnor. It should be added that the Portuguese didn’t have any success with his music. It’s just that they have a lot of devoted fans and that’s all they do to satisfy their own ego. Let’s move on to the album. The material contained on it is strictly guitar-based, very dynamic but not devoid of a certain dose of atmosphere. As I mentioned, the band moves according to the old school rules, so there is no push here to completely reject such elements as keyboards or even occasional female vocals. Thanks to the fact that the keyboards sometimes appear in the background of the rest of the instrumentation, the material gains a kind of slight differentiation. Apart from constant bombardment with sharp riffs arrangements, we have elements bringing to mind mixed pathos with uneasiness. This gruesomeness works very well in contrast with strictly Black Metal patents. Oh, I forgot to add that there is a kind of dark rock’n’roll element in DECAYED’s music. Tracks can be extended, not hypnotic in any way, and lasting more than 10 minutes like the title track. The sound is clear, without much roughness, but hard and without hesitation referring to old recordings from over 20 years ago. Honestly speaking, there’s not much 'bullshit’ about such sounds, just 'The Burning of Heaven’ is a piece of awesome Metal playing, which pissheads won’t swallow and old-timers will appreciate. No trends, no looking back, fucking Black Metal with a big emphasis on the second part of that patch. In my opinion, it’s a revelation in the category of a vulgar tribute to the past and sticking to a rigidly defined style, regardless of whether someone likes it or not. After the album described here, the twelfth horde’s material has already been released, so the time will come to describe this masterpiece. For now, let the heavens burn and all we can do is cheer for the havoc.
